2013 EuroSportDC - June 9th - WashDC Exotics Tour

The 5th Annual EuroSport Tour DC
Sunday, June 9th, 2013

A car tour, jet-powered aviation display, and concours event
www.EuroSportDC.com

Event Summary: EuroSportDC, June 9th, is a spirited car tour of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Maseratis, Aston Martins, and Lotus through the back roads of Maryland. Afterward, we will enjoy a display of 10 plus Jet Fighters on the Martin State Airport's tarmac and be allowed to sit in the aircraft's seats. Where else can you do all this? Plus, meet Valentino Balboni, the famed Lamborghini Test Driver.

Event Details: The fourth annual EuroSport DC tour will be a 2.5-hour drive through the countryside of Maryland. We will depart at the Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, MD and drive to Martin State Airport in Middle River, MD for a catered BBQ lunch and a People’s Choice Award Concours. For 2013, we have added an aviation element to the destination making our event more than just a car drive. We will enjoy a display of more than 10 jet fighters on the flight line of the Martin State Airport. Imagine our group of Euro sports cars surrounding a display of jet fighters along the airport's secured flight line. In addition, we will be allowed to sit in the fighter jets with instructors providing information. Valentino Balboni will do a technical review on the Lamborghini Aventador.

Registration will be open from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Tour participants will be served coffee and a breakfast sandwich to fuel up before the drive. In addition, Valentino Balboni will be running in the tour with us in a Lamborghini. Valentino was featured on Top Gear, 60 Minutes and every car magazine on the planet.

8:30 am to 9:30 am – Event Registration
Seneca Creek State Park – 11950 Clopper Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

9:00 am – Odds and Ends Detailing’s Wash Presentation on Valentino Balboni’s Lamborghini
A breakfast sandwich will be served at the park

10:00 am – EuroSport Tour Departs
Open up your engines for a 2.5 hour run through the Maryland Countryside

1:00 pm - Destination Concours, Jet-Powered Aviation display, and BBQ lunch.
After an exhilarating drive, we arrive at the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum at Martin State Airport, an Aviation National Guard unit, in Middle River, MD for a BBQ lunch, Jet-Powered Aviation Display and the People’s Choice Award Ceremony.

3:30 pm – People’s Choice Awards Ceremony

Registration cost for the event is $54.00 per person or $66.00 per person the day of the event. NOTE: $10 of each per person registration fee will go directly to the museum, a 501 (c)(3) Maryland recognized charitable organization, to provide them with support. A contract with the museum has binded us to that commitment.

> A BBQ Lunch at the Strawberry Point Flightline at Martin State Airport.
> Participation in the EuroSport Car Tour

$54.00 or $66.00 per person Are you FREAKIN' nutz... Sounds a bit more like greed than covering expenses... As usual count me out since this event tends to be rather disorganized... I would much prefer to give my money to a worthy charity rather than line the pockets of the organizers of this event... JMO but as usual you can count me out

EuroSport Improvements for 2013:
> Changing the Starting Location to accommodate the volume of cars and people.
> Adding event staff at the starting location to improve registration time.
> Quick, Just-Drive In and sign registration process for Pre-Registered people.
> Pit stop along the tour route
> Gas Stations marked on the tour route
> Tour Destination has its own excitement - We are adding an Aviation element to the destination to add to the car drive experience. At Martin State Airport there will be a display of 10plus fighter jets for our enjoyment. We'll wrap the car around them for outstanding photographs.
> Adding a Registration Cap of 130 cars. Once we reach that number, we are closing registration. We advise that people pre-register to ensure that your involved.

We are pleased to announce that Criswell Maserati is a prime sponsor. We have had a long-term relationship with Criswell, starting back when they were the Lamborghini and Lotus dealer. We appreciate their commitment to our event.

We look forward to an exciting 2013 EuroSport DC event.

Was planning to do this for the first time, but that is day light robbery... From viewing the pics from previous year there seems to be a lack of organization....

We had a TON of cars attend last year - more than expected. We had 175 cars attend EuroSportDC last year. That's a huge amount! Of the 175 cars that attended, 90 of them registered the day of the event. Our staff was a bit overwhelmed, however we adapted brilliantly. During the previous 2 years we had a total of 100 cars attend with only 20-30 of the 100 cars registering the day of the event.

We have learned from last year's enormous turnout. This year we are placing an event registration cap of 130 cars. We have added registration staff to meet the 130 number. In addition, we have moved the starting location to a facility that can accommodate the 130 cars.

We conducted surveys of event participants after last year's EuroSportDC and have made improvements. We are proud of EuroSportDC and aim to make it the best that it can be.

We look forward to a wonderful 2013 EuroSportDC event on June 9th.

No offense because I love the fact Balboni is returning, but I'm pretty sure you were asked not to return....

Guys please keep it civil. Kevin is a board sponsor and as such he has the right top promote his event. You may post your opinions be they of pleasure or displeasure or concern or what have you since that is not against 6speed forum rules and regulations. I only require that you do so in a respectful way.

thanks.

You mean I can't be BULLish So far everyone has kept it very civil... Unfortunately the event has built it's own reputation over the years... I personally would rather go to events where the money goes for a VERY worthy cause. The Castaway Critters Car Show is a prime example... Gina and I gladly forked over the donation for that event and gave them an additional donation as well and made the local CBS news... We need to have more of those types of events...

Would be really sweet if we could run on the airport strip. Any chance of that happening? As I would gladly pay for that!

It's time to set the record straight!

I realize some believe events should be free, but this one is not because we incur tons of cost. I wish I could make it free. However, I pay Valentino $3500 to attend the event each year. I pay that personally so people can enjoy his presence. I rent facilities, hire caterers, I pay for people choice awards, and pay to promote the event (including a 6 speed online sponsorship each year). This year I bought 3 expensive, high volume K-cup coffee makers so people at the breakfast can be guaranteed a hot cup of coffee. I generally spend around $10,000 to $12,000 on this event. This year will be higher as the airport is costing more money. The thought that I make money is laughable! We don't make money on it. In fact, I loss money each year on it. We have sponsors, but they don't cover the costs. Let's face it the economy is tight. This event is run by family and friends. We are a tight team and proud of what we do. My family has been running car events since the 1970's.

As far as charity, we are supporting one. Our event's inclusion of the Glenn L. Marin Aviation Museum is to promote their goal of restoring aircraft once built by Glenn L. Martin, founder of the Martin Aviation Company. $10 of each per person registration fee will go directly to the museum, a 501 (c)(3) Maryland recognized charitable organization, to provide them with support. A contract with the museum has binded us to that commitment. I don't know about any of you, but I had family that flew fighters in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. I would like to see that their sacrifices be remembered.

We are learning. We spend much time throughout the year working on the event. For instance, it took me 9 months to secure the airport for this year. Dealing with the FAA, MD State Aviation, and Airport Management is not a walk in the park.

Plus, there are a ton of people who like the event. I'm sent tons of emails an IM's from people each year stating that fact. We have a core of 70 to 80 people that have done the event three years in a row.

Last year we had a few issues due to the fact that we did not expect 175 cars and registration was rough to say the least. But, we have limited registration at 130 cars to take care of the issue. Please forgive us, we are continuing to learn and improve.

Everyone, Kevin has disclosed the details of his event, he has openned up and shared what makes the event the way it is and addressed some key points folks were raising. I think this will go a long way to letting everyone know about the event and why things are the way that they are including things like fees, expenses, and allocations.

It's your choice if you want to go or not, but at least now you know some more details to make an informed decision. Kevin has a right to promote his event here as a board sponsor, like the event or not is your choice, but please be respectful of that fact.
