After the recent loss of the Fair Lakes C & C venue, several regulars did some investigation to find a replacement Cars & Coffee location. There is a decent-sized lot at Fairfax Circle, in Fairfax, VA. The owner of the property knows our intentions, and the Fairfax Police are aware that we are starting this up. There is a small coffee shop at the edge of the lot.
It is VERY important that, going into this, everyone knows what expectations of the attendees will be: (quoting another member here)
"We are asking if people attend that they be respectful, drive like an adult, and set a good example to the community and prove that we can enjoy the cars and the fellowship without demonstrating the sound of our exhaust or the smoke off our tires.
FFX City police are aware of the gathering and will help keep things in check for those who seem to want to display bad behavior entering or exiting the lot."
Fair Lakes regulars know what a loss we have endured. With the larger group keeping an eye out for bad actors, we hope to be here for a long time. Expect that tolerance for idiots will be short.
Location:
Fairfax Circle is the intersection of 29 (Fairfax Blvd.) and Old Lee Highway. We use the parking spaces nearest 29, between the Harley dealer and the Fairfax Circle intersection. This is the same lot as Artie's (though the lot we use is on the opposite side of the property). The large sign for the lot has Bowl America, Artie's and Fast Eddie's on it.
Schedule:
We are looking at a starting time of 8:00AM each Sunday, in part because the coffee shop (Cameron's Coffee and Chocolates, 9639 Fairfax Blvd Fairfax, VA) is not open until 8:00AM.
Here's what the early hours of the first of many Fairfax Circle Cars & Coffee events. Thanks to the many people who worked to make sure we had a place to go on Sundays!
I had to leave early for a previously-scheduled Lotus club event, but we had 32 cars at the lot when I left around 9:15AM. I am told the eventual total was around 60 cars. A pretty impressive selection of vehicles, too.
Today, at the very first 'official' Fairfax Circle C & C, one attendee left the lot and made an impressive (to him) speed run down 29, in front of the lot. He was immediately apprehended and ticketed, and a cheer for the police went up from the assembled C & C crowd. The moral - we just lost a venue because of idiotic behavior; we won't be tolerant of it at the new location.
I stopped by Fairfax Circle after spending the early morning at Dulles Corner C & C. I saw at least 10 other people who did the same. I only had time to snap a few pictures before going over to Artie's for brunch.
A reasonable turnout, for an overcast Sunday morning. Quite a few of us start at Dulles Landing (since it starts as early as ~6:00AM), and come over to Fairfax Circle around 8:00AM or so. It's good to support Cameron's Coffee and Chocolate, onsite at Fairfax Circle. Nice people.
