Dyno in MSP area for AWD

Greetings! Just interested in a dyno reading . . However, having AWD limits the choices a little. Anyone have experience with DB Performance?

Thanks!

yea, DB is a great shop! one of my buds has a Cobra that DB built, single turbo, should be making somewhere in the 800+ range. They are awesome guys, you won't have any issues with them!

there is a MUSTANG All wheel drive dyno in Burnsville.
R&S. If you PM, I have their number at work.
That is the only type of dyno I would put MY AWD Porsche on.
For a new DynoJet, I would go to APS in Chaska/Shakopee area (169/41)

It sounds like that DB performance dyno might read a little high (or their correction
factors are high) because a 76mm turbonetics turbo on a Cobra with stock heads
cannot really make that much power. APS has built several with that same set-up.
The gentleman that owns that gorgeous silver Cobra is very nice and his car is first
rate, I just think the dyno numbers are a little much.

I know Ron personally and he is a good guy/friend, but the Dyno Dynamics dyno DB has is superior to anything in the five state area. I owned my Dynojet for 6.5 years(sold it about 9 months ago), and I loved every second of it. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to dyno ANY make model on the DD dyno.

Their dyno's correction factor is based on my Dynojet, it seems to be right in line, and actually may still be a bit conservative. The last turbo NSX I finished dynoed 584whp(corrected) on DB's dyno. I then drove it to Chicago to deliver to it's owner and I had it dynoed at SP(world known Supra shop) on their Mustang dyno.. it made 560whp on theirs. Which if you compare it to "Dynojet" corrected numbers.. DB's is still on the conservative side.

And a 76mm turbo should easily make that kind of power, no matter the heads.. just run more boost.

Todd/APS used to dyno on my dyno as well, I have no bias, as I only build cars now, not dyno/tune(I leave that to the best tuner in the state.. Shane)..

So Khan,

that single T76 with stock heads is going to make over 850 RWHP ??

Interesting. An easy way to check it out is to run it against Jeremy's T76 that Todd
built that has 690 RWHP and see if they make similar power on the street.

Hi Marty,

It could.. why not? I'm assuming because you are mentioning the stock heads you are saying they are a restriction(don't flow enough/well)? Well the infamous Toyota Supras which make insane power have horrible flowing heads, and make power just fine. Albeit it takes more psi to do so then on cars with similar displacement but with better heads etc(like the NSX). Basically the amount of whp per pound of boost will be different, but that isn't a reason a certain sized turbo can't make good power. A friends Supra(3.0L) with a smaller turbo then the 76mm in question makes 824whp so far(with a 72mm I believe).

Later this summer we can compare DB's dyno numbers to other dyno's numbers wherever anyone wants.. with my car. I'm going a little larger then a 72 or 76mm though.

As far as testing the numbers of the car in question.. thats up to you guys, as I do not know the owner of that car.

the Cobra guy, Nick, has a heavily built motor too, i don't know if you guys know this...
MArty, i don't know if he told you, but he is still having detonation issues in the top end. so, its not fully done yet... who knows???

thats me and i assure you the numers are right on. i am going to run it over at hitech as well to confirm it. There are lots of t-76 cars making the same and more power on stock 4v heads. Aj the detonation issues were on pump gas only with the 110 the detonation is gone and it holds 18* of timing across to board. the only thing holding it back any right now it the wastegate spring which is preventing it from going over 21#'s of boost. I am anxious to see what it will do at 26#'s.

thanks for the props btw buddy!

Oh and Dan is a great tuner. I have been going to DB for all my tuning for the past 3 years or so and have never had any trouble. they are pretty busy with tunin appoingtments so call them early to get an appointment if you are tuning. if you just want power pulls it should be easy to set up.

i am more than willing to dyno elsewhere to check it out. we did a similar test with another cobra between hitech and DB because of the claims that DB's reads low and found the the 2 dynos were withing 1-2 rwhp. i know similar tests were done between elite and DB when they designed the orrection factor for DB's dyno. i am confident it is very close if not right on to any dynojet in the area.

i wanted to go to the aps dyno thing yesterday but no one i talked to seemd to know the details. maybe i should've asked you Marty

Fair enough guys.

I was told the dyno numbers were inflated. These dyno wars get crazy and I have
a very small understanding of what that motor can actually do. We will hook up
again and the good ole street dyno shows best, ie. throw a drift box (I have one)
in the car and see what it does 60mph to 130 mph. A really good one is 0-186 mph
(0-300 kph). The dragstip trap speed of course is a great tell all as well.

Best,

Marty
