I recently registered for this rally after much research & it looks to be quite an event! LOTS of cool events along with the 1000 mile rally and the organizers are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and helpful. It's to benefit charity so it's also for a good cause. They even set you up with your own team Facebook page and help you get sponsors. I registered less than a week ago and already have the US Air Force and Race Precision Incorporated sponsoring me. It appears that whoever enters gets enough sponsors to cover the $1000 entry fee too. First place will be $15,000 & it's not a timed event but an event where you answer Michigan history & trivia questions for points. Here's my team Facebook page and 3 links to information.

I did the Michigan Gumball 2011. Nice event and my co-driver and I came in 3rd place. I would do another rally in a heartbeat.

 

Gets enough sponsors as in they find them for you?!?!?

 

Are you going to join us this year XLR8? I'll be driving 775 miles to get to Detroit but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Great job on 3rd place, wow. Are the questions at the checkpoints about the location where the checkpoints are located? I'm in Afghanistan for another 117 days and will start researching/studying Michigan history/trivia. In between the "excitement" of going outside the wire, there are long periods of boredom that would be good for study time. $15K would go a long ways for more upgrades for my M6!

I got two sponsors with just 2 emails I submitted and have 3 other letters drafted getting ready to send out. Right now I have the US Air Force & RPI (Race Precision Incorporated) sponsoring me.

better re-read your rules their scoring system is 100% based off of what letter of the word gumball you color in! as clearly stated on their site! and compared to a "scantron"

 

"Drivers and passengers participate in "Checkpoint Questions" and Gumball Teams will acquire "points" At each checkpoint you will receive one card and fill in ONE LETTER of the GUMBALL (like a scan-tron)"
