Thoughts on the new Nissan GT-R

After reading a few posts about the GT-R, I thought about asking a few questions of my own to you guys (mostly hardcore P-car owners) - from someone who is a die-hard German car fan and owner.

As many of you now know, the new Nissan GT-R is coming out late this year at a price around 70-80k with staggering performance figures. Nissan has done a great deal of R&D with the new GT-R, from replicating parts of the Autobahn at their test track in Japan, testing the car around the 'Ring, to spending a year in the wind tunnel. They even bought a 997TT for testing, seeming to use it as the "standard" by which they should be competing. This car seems to be surpassing it's badge on the front of the car - leaving those who say it's "Only a Nissan" running for cover when this car is released later this year. Good - only 1500 are being imported to the U.S. annually, keeping it somewhat exclusive. Bad - Huge markups (20-50k) from dealers for this first year.

Is anyone planning on purchasing one of these cars?

Or what are your thoughts on the new GT-R? Is this simply another Z06 or will it hold its own?

Should Porsche re-think a few things, such as their HUGE markups? http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-p...0-per-car.html

Most seemed like a bunch of bashing, I wanted to ask a few other questions, especially regarding the price differences.

I'm getting one. Not sure what you mean by "simply another Z06", and the Z06 is faster than all but the top of the porsche line. I'm a little worried about what it weighs. I can't afford a 430 Scuderia, and that seems to me to be the only other car on the market that rivals it for performance.

I think it'll be quite the astonishing performer and I think it's a great deal. It's definitely on my watch list. Everyone has mixed feelings on its looks, but I think it looks great and besides, I'm a fan of all of its technology.

The only problem I am seeing now is maintenance on this beast. It's estimated that it will cost 4K a year to run the stock tires (replacing them annually). Not to mention expensive parts because this is a bespoke car...

Any thoughts on this? I was considering a 996TT or an M3, but this GT-R might be it...

I am all for the GT-R. I think it will make for some good reading once people start modding them.

its just really fast. think of it as a really fine tuned G37 coupe with AWD and twin turbos and a much stiffer chassis. interior quality is quite good half of the dash is actually leather wrapped, pretty rare to find on a nissan, but i think the G35/7 interior is much better design but i guess the GTR interior is more suited for the car. everything inside the car is well placed, but it does feel kind of cramp for such a large car and there is no rear leg room at all. driving position is really like a sports car, doesnt feel tall like the G37. the car in person sits a lot lower then expected, also wider and longer.

the only things i dont like about this car is that you cant get race tires in 20" the slickest tires are the stock RE070R and also the gas pedal, it hangs on top like those found on the 350Z while the V36 G35/G37 already have the german style that goes from the ground up which i prefer.

at the same price range, i'd only look at the new M3, C63 and the GTR and GTR wins handsdown. to me, the car is pretty much perfect.

You wont get many Porsche owners replacing their cars for these, but it's still a great car.
It's also nice having a lot of tuners already making mods for these cars and should have a lot of aftermarket support for modding.

in hk, a lot of supercar owners are buying one. most of them won't believe how quick it is and once they tried the car out, all of them pulled out their check book

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've owned two Porsches recently and I will take a hard look at this car. Now, die hard Porsche guys (won't say fanboys but you know what I mean) that have the $$$$$$ for the 997TT, 997GT3 and 997GT2 probably won't be interested in the GTR but those (like me) that are not badge specific and do not have the $$$$$$ or willing to spend the $$$$$$ on the 997 versions of the TT, GT3, GT2 will be very interested IMO. My cutoff was $70K when I got my used 996TT. At $70K this car is phenominal...... I know you won't be able to get one for MSRP when they first hit the US.

I'm definitely looking at this car as my next purchase. For me, the M3 really didn't step up in the performance dept, and the styling isn't doing it for me. At 70k, this car looks better and blows it away in performance. I'll take the GTR.
