i really don't see the point in these posts anymore??? i drive a 99tt and really could care less what a GTR can do better or not than my car. GTR owners, congratulations to you for buying a tremendous car, at that price (regardless of how it compares to a 911), it's the best deal you can get. I've seen about a dozen of these GTR's around, and I personally think they are not bad looking...I've run 1 on the freeway, and I had him by about 1 to 2 cars to 160... we gave each other a thumbs up, and went on our way. if he beat me, i wouldn't be angry, as i've been had by many a viper/Zo6/other 911's in my day. if i were rich, i would definitely have one in my garage along with a variety of other great cars... it's the GTR/911 owners that keep starting threads to talk sht about the other car that's confusing to me... both great cars, both fast as hell, both fun on the track... there is no need to feel threatened by the existence of the other. Forget about all these assumptions about how GTR's will lose a lot of value in the next few years, my forecast is that 911 owners and GTR owners will eventually grow up and get over it.

i don't think the problem that arises really stems from the majority of the 911 or gt-r owners (or z06, evo, r8 owners etc...), but people who mag-race.

i personally love my gt-r, and i don't concern myself about how it compares to a z06, 911, etc... they are peers to me. and each have their own distinct properties, tendancies, and features.

Curious. What prompt you to go to GTR board to make that statement? If you are a Porsche fan, 6 speedonline has plenty of Porsche forums. Shouldn't you post this comment there?

Ill tell you what, cars aside...if you take your porsche to the dealer and they know its been tracked and used as it should be...they generally just go on about their business and do the repairs. But those nissan guys have to monitor and calculate every god damn thing the car has been through when something happens...what a crock.

Anyone with a pulse knows the Porsche is the all around better car but Porsches performance hasnt been untouchable in years. Even the Veyron is much much slower than cars like the GT2, Viper, Zonda etc at the Ring or circuit tracks. Thats the breaks kids. Need to be more open minded nowadays. Too many choices to be **** about any one name brand.
+1...Great post. Spoken like a true enthusiast. If only this forum had more open minded people. Unfortunately that doesnt appear to be the case. Elitism seems to run amuck. So sad.

Just a few points from how i see it. (no offence ment)

1 - Porsche owners/drivers/enthusiasts are a elitist group(alot of them at least), they enjoy Porsche's and alot of them would only buy a Porsche if they where buying a performance car. They love talking about 911's, GT2's to other owners and well everybody. They see Porsche's and 911's as an elite car that is just soooo good. So when a car that can match the performance of their beloved car at a fraction of the price they get a bit defensive. Its not just Porsche people, it happens with other groups, such as WRX drivers (in Australia at least) where alot of them are in their own little world and group and when someone mentions a car for a fraction of the price which is just as good they get defensive and try and shoot it down at every opportunity. I guess what it comes down to is different people enjoy different cars and have their own feelings on the cars they like own and drive.

2 - I don't think anyone has really had the money or the ***** to test a Veyron on The Ring at full speed and pushing as hard as possible.

3 - These threads are getting annoying/pointless/stupid.

Your post speaks the truth about some porsche owners.

All GTR owners are looking for is just alittle respect and ackwoledgment that the GTR is a continder. Honestly if you are a car nut you cant deny the GTR's past heritage and now its future.

Do i think the GTR is superior to the 911tt. No. Does it do some things better or equal to it. Yes. Just like the 911tt does some things better than the GTR

Its all good though. I respect the porsche and others. There are some things I love about the porsche and I absolutly love the interiors. The GTR's interior stlying and quality of course is in no way even close to the 911tt. I love the way you can option out a porsche too. Exterior design is really subjective to everyones own taste, but I love the aggressive butt of the wide body porsches. That being said I love the way my GTR looks too. Even though it is normal and I guess common to compare or judge every nook, gap, curve to the porsche they are both great cars.

It just seems most people posting in the GTR sub forum on 6speed are porsche owners that feel the need to defend the Porsche and are threatened by the GTR.

Within the next 12 months I will purchase a GTR as my DD (will keep my 996TT). Will be an interesting comparison.

I agree sir, and when one is shopping for a "supercar" and I use this term loosely when referring to the new GT-R, does cost cutting and deal making really come into play? Buy what you want, drive what you must and run what you brung (sorry, too much Pinks last night). I make a decent living and have driven and owned some decent cars and my ideal dream car has always been and always will be an aspirated Porsche! I don't care what the sixty times and 1/4 mile passes reveal or the copius amounts of track time at the Nurburgring. The GT-R is its own worst enemy, a by-product of years of hype and stroking by fanboys and German and Italian supercar haters everywhere. I don't think any car let alone the vaunted "Godzilla" could live up to this pressure and hype, especially after blowing countless transmissions trying to replicate manufacturer claims of performance.

sigh......

I agree on some points. I also dont care what a 997tt,GTR, Viper etc ran at the ring,1/4,0-60 either. I have never used, compared or pointed out these times either But with magazines and tons of bench/mag racing that is all some people see and care about. People who race know there are a ton of reasons why a car runs what it runs(weather, driver, car condition, tires, track conditions, fudge factor etc. etc. etc.)
Nissan is at fault along with others for stirring up this pot of crap and now everyone and his brother is spewing non truths on all sides. When I see a porsche or similar performance car I dont say "well my car beat that car in the ring/0-60 so my car is superior) For the love of automobiles this is worthless and like pissing into the wind.
Of all the people posting about tranny problems we could probably say its less than 10 cars (that I have seen on the different forums and none personally) with LC being culprit in most of them along with inproper usage(not breaking the car in,using LC repeatedly). With this one that was over 600+ on the stock tranny which we knew was going to blow without any mods to the tranny. This is the first year run here in the states and this can be expected not only with the GTR but other makers.
I can see why all the fanboys have hyped this car so much. Its never been available here in states until now and has this mythical status amoung young ricers. Hell most of the people hyping it dont have the means to get one and thats were all the magazine and bench racing come in and just gets out of hand. The R35 is something totally different than the R34,33,32 etc

I just hope this does not turn into another Transmission Bash thread as they are not productive at all. BTW I have been to the porsche side and I have not seen GTR fanboi's posting there bashing porsches. I am sure there may be some but not anywhere close to the GTR bashing in the GTR forum

there used to be a time when someone would run a 10.53 @ 128mph, and people would congratulate... as well as when someone would break a tranny, and responses were more "sorry bud"... now there is some reaaaaaal hate going on. keep in mind... there is always someone faster... lol. merry christmas.

That is true, I really hate to admit it but if the Nissan was not such a threat to my precious Z I would be more inclined to give it praise. There I said it and suggest that anyone else sharing the same hidden sentiment come forward now and speak. Let's start the year anew.
