Winter setup?

Couldn't find enough info on nagtroc. Is anyone just running all seasons on stock rims for the winter? An all around compromise for sure, but I have used all seasons in the winter just to deal with the colder temperatures and an occasional flurry. Don't plan to drive it when it really snows and they clear the road here in NY very quickly, so serious snow tires aren't really needed. I only cringe at the thought of $2200 all seasons plus the mounting costs. Even though they are better in the snow, in my area I don't think it makes sense to go with winters. Sounds like the all seasons may give adequate performance year round as well. Anyone with experience?
