Saw something sad tonight
So driving home from night out tonight saw a deer get hit by a guy in a small suv. not munched or crunched but I saw the deer get off the side of the road and fall to it's knees just to see it's eyes look scared and sad all at once. i'm just glad Zach was asleep and didn't see.
sappy yes is this thread but the moral to the story is "watch out for those guys" it only takes one medium sized mule to really wipe out one of our low riders and possibly a good friend with it.
keep the driving slow and night time seems a bit safer.

awww....that makes me sad when i hear about critters being hit. =(
i've seen that happen once as well. it broke my heart. it was a baby deer and i saw him start to cross the road. i tried to pull over and get out and scare him back into the woods, but i was too late. a man hit him with his truck and the other sad part is that he had his son in the truck with him. i cried like a baby! =*(
lots of critters out this time of year

deer whistles according to my cousins in eastern washington do nothing.
Jody I had my son last night. Good thing he was asleep and didn't see the little guys eyes when it happened.

Did someone put it out of it's misery?
I think I remember telling you about the time that I saw a tahoe get sideswiped by an elk. In retrospect, It was somewhat stupid to approach a live/dying buck let alone finish it off with my knife (it was a hunting knife, but I don't hunt). Thing was probably full of adrenaline and could have easily killed me (pretty sure he had a few broken bones).
Sadly, there isn't a lot you can do besides trying to make a controlled stop. Anything else could complicate the situation. Sometimes people will try to swerve out of the way and the deer/elk will try to do the same and go into the same direction.
If the sound of an engine, bright headlights moving fast towards you and a honking horn doesn't scare a deer away, I seriously doubt "Deer Whistles" will succeed where they fail.
It's a good thing Zach didn't have to see it.

That is a sad story Mark - I would not want to see that either and I am glad your son was asleep. The deer is in deer heaven now.

Aww
Gotta be careful around these parts with deer. Especially eastbound past the 405 and the 90 interchange. Its even worse when you pass a lifeless ball of fur on the road and see a collar. Im a huge softie when it comes to seeing peoples pets on the side of the road and knowing that the little guy had a name.
