Mercedes Maintenance

I'm looking for an independent to service my ML 350 and E55. the ML needs regular maintenance. OK, so it doesn't NEED it but the damn light is on and i don't want to drop a ton on it.

the E55 has a shimmy from 45mph --> 60mph. very slight but i've done everything with the wheels that i can and need more enlightened help.

thoughts? thanks,

Brendan

Most of those maintenance lights are just for oil changes. If you would like I could look up what services are required for your specific mileage point, and I even have instructions for turning off the light if need be. As for the shimmy, what tires, and how much mileage. If they are old, or have some miles on them then you probably should just upgrade. If they are still good then you should take them to someplace with a road force balancer. I bet they are just not positioned on the wheel properly, or out of balance, maybe a combination. Most do not understand that tires have high and low points, and must be matched to the wheel, this is all pre-balancing. So take them to get balanced, ask for pre-ballance weights (just for your reccord), then tell them you would like them match mounted to the lowest weight before they stick on the lead. I'm staying away from the shop recommendations because a family member of mine runs a shop down in Seattle so I'm a biased party.

thanks for the response.

on the ML, it's service C. i guess i could RTFM here? ideally, i can find somebody local that can reset the codes, etc.

on the E55, i rebalanced the wheels & tires on 2x when i had michelin PS2s on it. now i have brand new bridgestones & i have the same issue but it's less promounced. that may be because i have a less aggressive tire but my concern here is that i have some wear issue in the suspension.

You probably flatspotted your suspension bushings from never driving it... you should probably sell it while it still runs... most MB drivers will not notice the wobble anyway.

What year is your E55? And what year is your ML? Makes a big difference when diagnosing your problem.

There is a Bellevue MB service tech that offered deals etc on another MB forum, I can ask?

For the E55 did you try getting alignment? My car experienced a little shimmy when my alignment was a little off.

Performance Motors...the affordable alternative to the dealer!

Great service, free diagnostic. Even European car dealer uses his service.

a few things

first, disregard PJ. he's just trying to get me to buy a new car when the world as we know it is collapsing. on the other hand, the E55 was originally a canadian car. maybe i'll buy and icelandic car since the whole country is going bankrupt. gotta be a good deal there

second, the ML is an 06, the E55 is a 99

third, i'll get it aligned again. that would have to reveal anything that may be amiss

fourth. thanks for the referral. it seems like there's not an obvious answer here so i'll plug away!

Brendan,
I know a few factory MBZ techs who would be willing to work on your Benz's off the clock. If interested PM me.
