TPMS & Floor Jack questions, please

So I asked this at Cayenne forum but had no answer... I thought I would ask the local ppl here instead if I could, please.

Our Cayenne S (08) seems to be giving a false alarm saying left rear tire pressure is too low (-5). I went to gas station and got some air for it.. It was back to normal. As soon as I got home, it showed -2, then -4, and now -5 again. I checked the tire and it was at 43 psi..this morning showed the same thing (43)... So I was wondering if anyone has had this happened before and how do I reset it?

May I also know what's a good floor jack that I should buy and where to buy it (used for Audi sedan and Cayenne)...thanks!

We bought a great foor jack from Costco. As for your tire, keep an eye on it, you may have a slow leak somewhere.

First you must have an accurate tire gauge. The ones at the end of a service station air hose are notoriously inaccurate. As Detail John said check and inflate your all your tires to the correct pressure (preferably when they are cold, but certainly within no more than a few miles at a slow speed), then have your TPMS "relearn" the settings (see the manual). Now carefully monitor your tire pressures with both the TPMS and your tire gauge. If you still see drops in pressure in the one tire, you have either a slow leak or a faulty TPMS sensor (you should be able to get it replaced under warranty). These sensors do go bad on occassion.

As for a floor jack, Costco probably is a good bet. If not there, Sears also sells a good 3 1/2 ton floor jack for under $100. You might also consider a small 120# air compressor from Sears to keep your tires at the proper pressure. You'd be surprised at how much tire pressures vary over the course of just a week.

A slow leak may be as simple as a loose valve core. Make sure it's snug and keep a valve stem cap snugged up too.

Thank you, gentlemen. You local folks are always the most helpful ones. I will check out these jacks you mentioned.

Hummm, I use my own gauge as well as TPMS, they both show 43... weird that it still says -5....

Hummm, I just checked out air compressor on Sears.com and there's a few. Which one do you recommend?

Thanks.

That sounds more like a faulty sensor. I have one that sometimes wants to toggle back and forth by 2#'s. Does it ever go below -5#'s?

I have the small 125 PSI one that is similar to the one they now show. I got it a couple of years ago on a Christmas sale for $75. Works like a charm and doesn't take up much space. You might want to wait for about 6 weeks, because they may go on sale again.

OK I guess it's the sensor. Take it back to the dealer, if the car is still under warranty. If not, just live with it unless you want to spend about $125 for a replacement. It could be a little less expensive if you were to wait until you replace your tires.

I have the Craftsman 5 gal model, and it works great.

I almost never use the damn thing, but I do have a fence project to finish, so I've kept it around for the nail gun.

Take a look at this one, but it was much cheaper when I bought it.

This is good for pumping up tires and could be used with a limited number of air tools. I use mine for blowing water off the car (in the cracks and crannies) after washing it.
