I've taken both routes in the past to get to VA and to see people along the way. This time of the year I think the main thing that would aid you in your choice would have to be the weather. The higher elevation are most likely to have been hit with snow. So prior to embarking on your trip I would see which is clearer.

No one knows where Ohio is. (Kidding, H20)

I would take 80 or 90. 70 is going to be way out of the way, but is a pretty fun drive from Grand Junction to Denver.

That's not true at all. I bought a car last year from Cleveland. I had to tell the trucking company where it was though

Totally depends on the time of year. As a former military guy, (i'm still a guy, BTW) I have been across the country a bunch. Different route nearly every time. I drove the Lotus across (GA to WA) in December. I took I-10 to I-5 and even stopped at Cars and Coffee along the way.

Let us know what time of year and we can be more help. Also, the type of car might matter.

As a Subie with Blizzaks probably won't care what you put it through.
