New!!--Exotics At Redmond Town Center
I made the determination from an earlier post that stated there are dozens of 997TT's and only CGT, GT2 or GT3's would be permitted to park in the center zone. I have attended many car events and always have a great time. Didn't appreciate the tone this one was taking on - arrogance.
Greta, I'm sure your car would have been welcome. The "show area" included among other things a Honda, a Dodge, and some SUVs. There was no elitist attitudes present. The spillover area on the other hand included everyone that showed up late enough to miss a parking spot and ranged all over in style and quality, many Ferrari, a Westerfield, a very limited edition Audi, and others.
The concerns we're seeing on the forums, really are just here on the forums. Come on down. Have some coffee, spill it on an exotic. You'll have fun.
As I said to start, I'm sure your car would have been welcome. Even more so though, you would have been welcome. It was a good attitude here. Better than what I saw on EoM where I frequently felt a little out of place.

There was never one word mentioned by me or Vic regarding a cutoff on Porsche. I challenge you to find even one post where we mention ANY model. If there is arrogance here it's definitely coming from you. Be a man and find the post. That's twice now you've not had your facts straight.

I think I get the credit for mentioning the Porsche models. It was a sarcastic post though in an attempt to show the difficulties in defining 'exotic'.

go to cars.com, do a search on your cars make. If it returns 1500, that's their maximum, so pick a specific model.
Morgan: 0
Lotus: 133
Aston Martin: 269
Lamborghini : 330
Ferrari: 854
Fiat: 1 (chuckle)
and some specific exotic models:
Audi R8: 50
Ford GT: 48
Porsche Carrera GT: 21
Porsche 911 GT2: 35
etc etc you get the idea.
The above suggested idea, by the way, is just as ridiculous as any other attempt to define exotic.
Exotic by definition is also dependent on where you are. A car that would be exotic in a less affluent neighborhood would probably not garner the same attention in an area where they're more common.
Despite that though, I think the organizer's intent is clear, they want to try and have a display area where they can share their cars and show them off a little. All while grabbing a coffee and chatting with other people that are excited about cars.
The definition for parking in the show area could be pretty simple: do you want people looking at your car?

Yup, which we understood and said we'd try and sort that out once we had an idea of interest, etc., and that we'd try and be more inclusive than exclusive. I just get sick of the bomb throwers who don't have their facts straight. It's tedious, however we're not going to change our focus. This is an EXOTICS event, always was an exotics event and there will be gray areas and we're going to lean towards inclusive rather than exclusive. I've said that over and over enough now, and today everyone had a great time.
What is it with some of you people??? Why do you have such a bug up your butt over this??? This is an EXOTIC event, no different than a street rod event, or a classic car event or even a JDM event, or a monster truck event. Somehow because we use the word EXOTIC, you somehow think that entitles you to do as you please. If you don't like it, nobody is forcing you to attend. There are lots of other events around Seattle such as Southcenter which has no rules of any kind. Or better yet get yourself a backbone and start your own event and see how much fun it is to organize. Your Mini is not an exotic under any definition. The Redmond police will continue to join us to back up RTC and make sure things run smoothly and we're happy to have them there to help out.
You just said it. "This is an EXOTIC event" You've told Greta her 997 isn't welcome. Porsche's have never been noticed as exotics. So if Jon Shirley drives up in his 2 million dollar 550 the Redmond townies better show him the door.
Do you think guy you are putting just a little too much weight on the car you drive and not enough weight on the person you are or want to be around?
I will look forward to attending next weekend now that we have this all straightened out and I plan to park right next to TommyJames, kindof like your feistiness. (PS: TommyJames, I never said it was "you" that made the comment, I said I was discouraged by the way the thread comments in general).

Tommy, You have been put on the spot on this thread from the beginning about Porsche, lotus (and others) cars and you always refer back to EXOTICS. You don't confirm or deny anything specific on other euro's (mainly Porsche) cars, but you always refer back to exotics and what you "feel" (since you are management correct) will work for this event? I (we) understand drawing a line with cars since you are wanting to keep from Asian and domestic cars. So if that is the case... go to European cars only since that is what you are leaning towards. Others "if" you feel only cars that are $250+ are truly exotic let it be that way and say it.
but we (as a Porsche and exotic community on 6speed) are trying to understand your areas that you put down as "grey". If you don't want Porsche and sub price value cars at the event we will honor what you want.
But it is great when you have someone Like Anthony (Mix A lot) get out of his car and smile at me and tell me he enjoyed his drive up with me and Joe (white 996 and Black GT3). Why is this great? because we are all drivers and car people and drive "exciting" european cars and have a passion for these cars.
