What to look for in a Porsche
What to look for in a Porsche
Hey all i've been lurking here for a bit and in the market for a new car. Been looking at the 997s for a few months now and pretty familiar with it.
Could some of the Porsche owners chime in on what options are "necessary" and which I could do without? I'm pretty set on a 05 - 07 but the 07 looks better due to the factory warranty. Was thinking about getting an aftermarket warranty on the 05 but i've heard lots of bad reviews about this.
Thanks, and I hope to be joining you all at a meet sooner than later.

Hahaha thanks BritBlaster but the GT and 3 are also followed by about $30,000 more numbers that my wife doesn't like.
It was hard enough to convince her that the back seats of the Porsche make it a "sensible" baby hauler.

Hey! Don't let common sense get in the way of an emotional purchase!!!
the letters GT followed by a 3 or a 2, or preceeded by the word carerra
Drive a few, pick the one YOU like the best.
They all drive differently, & have their own personality. Don't get to hung up on little things, the 997 has been a reliable car so far.

Welcome to the board.. Actually a GT3 RS (naturally aspirated) goes for roughly $50k more than a standard Carrera and good lord! the GT2 (turbo baby!) was a whopping $120k more than the MSRP of a standard Carrera ($76k) I personally like the Carrera 4. The 4 wheel drive option is a nice choice- even better would be a Targa 4- especially if you actually plan on using the backseats- having the rear hatch would make it more practical. And nowadays, I have to have navigation..love it..
An extended warranty is pretty much buying piece of mind. but I think the mileage should determine whether or not you opt to go with an extended warranty. If the mileage is low, it passes a PPI and you regularly maintain your car- I wouldnt suggest buying one- you are buying something that you hope to never use.. I would keep the money that you would have spent on the warranty in a savings account named (997 "what if" fund) and still sleep soundly at night. and after the 4 years or whenever the term wouldve expired- take your wife on a vacation with the money- wait..scratch that- spend the money on some new rims or seats
good luck with your search

Yeah I did drive a few around but stayed away from the tt knowing well that I would spoil myself.
Thanks Ranger. Actually I was in the market for a used 997s so that's gonna be around $50 - 60k. There are some GT3 going for around $90k so that's where I get that figure from.
Either way it may now be a moot point. Looks like words "practical" and "usable" are being used way too much around the house. Don't know why I need 4 doors.

lol.. yeah I just recently swapped out a Lexus GX470 for a 996 C2 as my daily driver.. ironically having 3rd row seating and 2 SUV's was not practical for my household (no kids).. good luck on your search
