Feeler thread: First Annual In-N-Out Burger Rally - June '10
This is a feeler thread for a rally/drive I’m planning for June 2010.
This will be a 3 day event. The plan would be to leave Friday morning from Tacoma and return Sunday afternoon/evening.
Those of us in the northwest are rather unfortunate due to the fact that we don’t have access to In-N-Out Burger. That’s what I’m told anyway. So In-N-Out Burger will be the theme of the event.
The rally/drive will take us down the Washington, Oregon, and Northern California coast on Highway 101. We will be spending Friday night on the Oregon coast. The idea is being tossed around to stay at a state park with cabins and yurts. Saturday’s portion would take us the rest of the way down to coast to highway 299 which will take us into Redding, Ca which is the location of the closest In-N-Out Burger to us in the PNW. We will then be staying the night in Redding. Sunday will involve a calm drive back up I5.
Highway 101 and 299 are full of fun twisties, and Highway 101 has a lot of great views as you travel down the coast.
This thread is being used to determine how many people would be interested in attending a drive like this.
The final planning will be done by January 2010 to insure that those that want to attend have plenty of time to reserve cabins and/or yurts for our stay in Oregon. They tend to get booked up quick since they accept reservations 9 months in advance.
This will be posted on many different auto enthusiast boards and I do believe a diverse crowd will attend. Domestics, Euros, and Exotics alike…
If you have any input, please feel free to post it in this thread so I can take it into consideration. I’ll be maintaining a list of those that are interested so that when final details are set, I can email/pm those that have expressed interest.

Also, once final details are set, the plan would be to invite auto enthusiasts from California and neighboring states to arrange their own rally/drive and meet the PNW group in Redding, Ca.
People who live south of Tacoma, Wa or in Oregon are welcome to meet up with the group at any point in the drive as well.

Not sure how helpful this is, but I can confirm that Redding, CA is indeed the closest In-N-Out Burger location to the PacNW as I've intentionally gone to that location 4 times over the years for the privilege of having one of their burgers. You can pretty easily get there in one day, but I realize for the purposes of a 3 day rally that might not be the main objective. Good luck!

Correct, the purpose of all of this isn't just some In-N-Out, although I am looking forward to trying some for the first time. I just decided to use In-N-Out as my theme for this rally/drive.
The response so far has been tremendous. I'm honestly rather surprised how much interest I've received from these threads on other boards.
Hopefully some 6speeders decide to go with us

Get In-and-out to sponsor the event. Make it a Gumball Rally style deal!?
That would certainly put the PacNW on their map and maybe get a store or two up here!

We did this drive on our way down for the Concorso in Aug. It is excellent. There is a really nice Hotel/Casino that is inexpensive in Coos Bay Oregon, and it is on the 101. We stayed there our first night. The RedWood Forest and Eureka are awesome. We are in for this drive.

I NEVER miss the In and Out when down that way, always hit the one in Las Veags as well as the one in Gilroy when at the shop in California.
My receptionest went to High School with the surving BLOOD owner/daughter of the orginal owner in Redding, CA. Last year she went down for a "Girls only" reunion put on by her in Newport Beach California.
The grandmother and grandfather started the chain in North Cali, the grandfather and her dad were tragicaly killed in a plane crash when returning from the opening of a store some years ago. It was then passed down to the surviving son, (her Uncle) he passed of a heart attach a while back.
She is the main stock share holder, other parts of the company owned by various cousins and famile members. Her day to day job is to ONLY creat the art work for the T-shirts and the like...she does not do any day to day operations of the company.
I know first hand from conversaations with her that they HAVE NO intention of letting the Biz out of the family and non intention of growing out of the SW states they are in.
As a matter of fact ehy are currently involved in a name infringment suit for a company that recently opened up in Texas using their name and alike style of a restaurant, supposedly to fool people into thinking it is part of the "Orginal" in-n-out stores.
Just some side info of intrest for you all.
PS They take care of their employees very well, with a starting pay of $9.50 and hour and multiple fring bennys...medical, schools, etc etc...they only promote up the chain from inside the company.

Also, depending on how many confirm interest, I was considering hitting up some magazines for some possible coverage.

I honestly thought about adding a track day into the mix, but that would make the event longer and I'm trying to keep it to a 3 day gig. If it's as big as I think it'll be, maybe I'll shoot for a 4+ day in event in 2011.

Sounds like a great trip. I would be in for sure. In and Out has a mobil kitchen then use to cater on site. I did a golf event in S. cal. and had the truck and team serving everyone out of the truck. Everyone loved it.
If you do a track event the truck could be there if they cover that far north. Keep us posted
