I'd echo what everyone is saying here and tell you to get rid of the ZO6 due to being able to replicate it in the future ( just don't forget what's been done to it ).

It's hard to say whether the Mark 4 Supra will hit collector status anytime absolutely soon, but to the right person your car is worth a great deal. Cars are meant to be driven, so you will have to make the choice whether to put away and maintain, drive, or sell the car. If you sold the car, the new owner may mod to oblivion, or put it away like you've done.

With your stable, I'm not sure why you're worrying about the cost associated with keeping the car and the lack of fulfillment from not driving it. You can only drive one car at a time, and you have 5 cars?

If I were absolutely dead set on selling the Supra (not even taking ZO6 into consideration, this is besides the point), I'd find someone with the same vision for the car, to see it well maintained, OEM, but not be completely hurt if they change their mind and decide to destroy its innocence.

Who else will keep the car the way it is now but you??? Choices.

Thanks for the input it has honestly been surprising...

usafdarkhorse - you bring up good points. The reason I mentioned the cost of ownership is simply if you aren't going to drive/enjoy it and it isn't going to appreciate that's where the logic comes into question for me.

I work/travel a ton and don't have the time to write an ad and go through the selling process so it will probably just come down to putting the word out to some of my friends and on the Supra and Z06 forums and seeing which one generates an easy cash buyer first.

yeah but a supra in your condition likely WILL appreciate. you've been fortunate enough to end up as one of the people who happened to buy what is now arguably a classic and kept in a condition representative of such.

Agreed, but as I stated, its not that he Supra won't appreciate, but the reality is the appreciation will never be increase faster than the cost of ownership. If you do the math its not an investment that pencils out to a positive investment. As an example if you owned the hardtop and stored it since new at a cost of $50k and paid insurance, property taxes and maintenance at let's say $1,500 per year, you'd be into the Supra for $77k so you can see how the cost of ownership increases at a greater rate than the appreciation.

I could put a lift in either of our two shops and that would be a cheap solution, but it comes down to a decision on how many cars you want to own. At our last house we had more shop space with lifts and had as many as 15 cars at times, but it get's ridiculous trying to keep battery tenders on them, detailed, covered, maintained, etc. You can only realistically drive so many cars so you'll always have a top 3-4 list you actually drive, especially if you work and travel a lot. Unless you get to the Jay Leno level where money is no object then you just hire mechanics and car care takers, otherwise it get's to be a bigger hassle than enjoyment if you own too many.

While the Supra isn't appreciating at a rate we'd all like, it certainly isn't tanking in value like any "newer" sports car like the Z06, a GT2, or a Gallardo. I don't know how some people can stomach losing 40%-50% of the car's value in just 2-3 years.

You could view the Supra like gold, it always has a value, and view the Z06 as a plotted curve after Q.E. 1,2, and eventually 3.

I see this question as a highly personal one.

My instinct was to say Supra, BUT... reading your commentary... I say unload the Supra.

I think most of the respondents are putting themselves into your position and then coveting what is without a doubt a pretty rare thing (an unmolested MK4)

BUT... I think in a case like this better advice is trying to help someone figure out what *they* want to do.

What *I* would do with your money is pretty irrelevant. What *you* want to do is what matters and, to me, it sounds like you'd prefer to let the Supra go. I think you're a mod minded guy and a bone stock car that is just kind of languishing isnt your thing.

Sell Supra, keep Z06, get 996, have fully modded stable, drive all of them as much as you can (prob not much )

agree with everyone. bye z06.
Yeah, I had the same question, why 2 Supras and why 2 GTR's, doesn't make sense, at least to me. Get rid of the Z06, dime a dozen, at least around here.

From the ad, seems like the decision was made

Personally, if you're not a collector... The fact that a Z06 is a dime a dozen and a virgin Supra is rare really doesn't matter. The point the OP was making was that he doesnt use the Supra at all and doesnt feel any satisfaction from a car that sits doing nothing (I do "get" that). And "collectors cars" really are just losing money non-stop, so if you dont get pleasure out of owning it, it is pretty pointless to preserve a museum piece for someone else.

All of that said, he made a (surprising, IMO) decision and the 1000HP Z06 is going bye bye.

With that stable, I'd have unloaded the virgin Supra, the more I think about it. I like modded cars and putting a personal touch on cars. I also don't like feeling that if I drive the thing, it is somehow going to ruin it since the *only* real value the thing has is that it is a pristine original. There is already a beast Supra in that stable, and now there is a heavily modded 911 coming too. The little virgin Supra really stands out in that collection, IMO. Everything is a fire breathing monster heavily modded with time slips getting posted and then there is a Supra sitting doing pretty much nothing.

It isnt that far from Ferris Bueller (Cameron's dad with his Ferrari museum in the house) which sounded like it rubs the OP the wrong way. Maybe he'll change his mind

I don't know exactly why I can't bring myself to sell the Supra even though it doesn't get driven. In some ways it doesn't make sense to keep it. Its a personal/emotional based thing that has to do with our history with this car.

We had two because the 2012 Black Edition is pretty much my wife's and the black one was mine which I planned to modify before trading it for the TTZ. If I sell the Z06 there are to options which is an 1100 HP Protomotive 996TT or an R1K GTR. I also just learned of a Switzer GT-R that will be for sale soon and that would be another option. I won't be able to modify the Black Edition as my wife won't go beyond basic tune, which is a P600.

I would not keep a car I do not drive. I don't want to offend any Supra owners, but its not a rare Ferrari or something of that nature, its a Supra.

What makes Supras so great is the fact that that motor can make so much power (800 plus on stock block and over 1500 w/ a built ,motor).
