Relocating Rear hatch closing button
#16
US edition bimmers can be programmed/coded to close the rear hatch from inside. I did it on my X5 E70 using Carly app. Anyone who has info how to code these PCars? Perhaps using the Foxwell NT510?

I have successfully installed a button under the dash to close the rear hatch from inside. I'm not hijacking this thread, just sharing the install experience.
1. Pop out the rear hatch close button on the rear hatch and...
...tap your long wire on pin no. 1 GREEN and no.4 BROWN.
2. I didn't pop out the plastic covers because Im worried I'll break the clups and fasteners (Cant find a DIY anywhere). So I ran a hard (clothes hanger) wire to guide the line to the top center and merged it with my rear dashcam line.
3. I routed the line to the left side and just "pushed" and "tucked" the wire so that I dont have to remove any trims.
5. Take out the trim under the steering wheel. There are 4 plastic torx T25
6. Depends what kind of button you prefer. I ordered several types but I preferred this one. Drilled a hole. Installed the connectors and placed the trim back.
5. Its important to have cold beer after this very challenging DIY
Honestly, the job was not easy because I chose not to pop out the trims and therefore all my fingers hurt and have scratches and cuts The upside is...no broken clips!
That's it! Here's a video that proves it works!
