iPod interface does not charge iPod or iPhone.

CORRECTED: iPod interface does charge iPod or iPhone.
Edited: See my last post. The cable DOES charge if you make a "U" connection with the usb cable and loop it back into the usb port.
Thanks to EasyButton for figuring that out.

Ugh.
What a huge inconvenience this is.
It even brings up the dreaded "This device is not intended to work with iPhone" error message.
Now I have to keep a charger, and plug it into the damn cigarette lighter, to keep the phone going.
I have a crossover adapter plug that might work. I'll try it and report back.

Y cable works... message does not mean it will not charge - there actually is a different message if the phone will not charge. Press 'No' on the pop up and everything should work fine. PCM interface is via the dock connection; charging is via USB. Older iPods only need the dock connection to interface and charge. FWIW a lot of adapters cause the iPhone and other iPods to display the message and work just fine.

Sorry for asking again and if this comes off wrong, but are you using the cable that attaches to just the iPod port, or the cable that attaches to both the iPod port and the USB port? The standard cable that only attaches to the iPod port will not charge the iPhone or newer iPods. Unless your dealer swapped it for you, the cable that came with the car will not work.

I use one of these in my Tesla for iPhone charging:

Older iPods used fire-wire 12volt charging. This gizmo (and others) convert the 12v fire-wire charging to 5v USB charging voltage and apply it to the correct dock connector pins.

I got the phone to charge.
You make a "U" connection with the supplied cable and hook the USB end of the cable back into the USB port in the console.
Thanks for the tip easy button. That saves me a LOT of aggravation.

Yes, the power comes from the USB.
