Panamera vs. Quattroporte
I don't want to speak for the poster but the F1 trans is not desireable in a QP as it is terribly jerky...... I would only ever consider the automatic in a QP.
If you know F1 transmissions, the clutch wears prematurely, as in any Maserati before the automatic. Thus, reliability is a non issue with the newer powerplant and transmission. Electrical problems with the QP are common, but no more than any other limited production car.

To resurrect an old post, I decided to hold in March because being so upside down in the QP, I would have needed to drop a large sum of cash for the deal. A Panam has come up used by a Porsche marketing rep with 7k moles. It has never been titled and was not a demo. They are able to work a better deal on this one where I can slide right over with no additional out of pocket. It is a PS, still without ventilated seats and no Burmester. I am going to pull the trigger on this deal!
Never driven a PS, but if it drives anything like the PTT, you'll love it. I hear ya on being so upside down on the QP. We actually had the title to the QPS but took a serious bath on the car. Wife actually loves the PTT (hers now) because she said if feels more "planted" to the road and the power of the PTT was noticeably more. The Navi is actually pretty straight forward along with the Bluetooth...the QP's Bluetooth was never able to sync with my BB and the Navi was pretty bad. While we miss the intoxicating sound of the QPS, we don't regret selling it.
I'm soooooooooo thinking of changing exhaust but I think the wife will notice the sound on the PTT.
Oh, for what it's worth, the PTT gets MUCH better gas mileage than the QPS.

Its quite sad that reviewers have all picked the panamera turbo or the panamera 4S to compare with the quattroporte.... the real contender should be in fact the panamera S, as EVO and a few other reviews (eg best motoring japan) has suggested many times in their individual reviews of this car, the front wheels from the 4WD robs the steering feel.... Anyway im loving my Panamera S to bits
If you are 16 and 0-60 times make you wet then go for the Panamera. If you are cool, sophisticated, classy and have style then there is only one choice. Funny how reviewers after reviewers prefer the QP over the Panamera, yet boys on this forum are in denial all the time.
If you want a proper 4 door with space and a great interior and handling then get the BMW 7. It comes out ahead of the Panamera in most head-to-head comparisons. Neither are in the QP's league so quit trying to compare apples to oranges.

Wife and I loved our QPS's style and "sofistication" and the sound was intoxicating. I believe someone on this forum said it best when comparing 911 Turbo to the F430..."Italian Style vs. German Math". Pretty much summed it up for me.
I do agree with you that both cars are like comparing apples to oranges as I felt they were both just "different". We opted to keep the Panamera Turbo over the QP S for its AWD safety in the rain and "light" snow duties, the power of the PTT, ease of use of the Navi (wife tried avoiding the use of the QP's Navi), Bluetooth, backup camera. Honestly, we both wish we could have kept both, but one had to go to make room for the Turbo S.
We anxiously await the next QP model and see what the boys over at Maser have in store for us.
I've never driven the QP GTS, but I can't imagine it being much faster than the QPS but GTS sure does look sexy.
We're happy with our Panamera Turbo so far...with it could seat 5 sometimes though.
I have never driven the PTT but I have no doubt that it is every bit as good as they say it is. I am not for a second disputing it's engineering prowess. But I don't get the raison d'etre for the PTT. If you want a handsome, fast, well built, competent 4-door then there are some excellent choices already out there (BMW 7, MB CLS, Audi RS6). If I am going to spend 100+ large ones then I would want something a bit special, would want to make an impression wherever I go and want to feel like a king when stepping out of the car. I am sorry but the Panamera is just too plain and boring to deliver any of that.
If you actually drove one you'd have a basis for making this post. If you want to feel special and have people notice you because you spent $100k+ on a car, well...
