Remote lock/unlock problems
Remote lock/unlock problems
Yesterday, my 2010 Panamera 4S with 15K miles failed to unlock when I directed the fob in the usual way. I actually had to get out the little mechanical key from the fob and use it to open the door. The car then started and ran well. When I got home, I could lock it with the fob, but unlock failed again only to work later that day. Any thoughts?
There is an interference issue w/the keys - was discussed a few months ago .. here is the relevant text:
"On another issue -- keyless entry failure to operate in certain locations -- I'm informed that PAG engineers are in Chicago testing a new antenna amplifier module for the 315 MHz key receiver that has the potential to completely cure any remaining issues with the Enter and Drive system. There are different places in Cincinnati where the system fails to operate correctly and the dash display says "Key Not Recognized" and sets off the alarm. Fun!
The first round fix (my car already had it installed from the factory) involved adding a filter between the antenna amplifier and the key module that rejected strong 104.9 or 105.1 MHz FM stations that produced an overload on the 315 MHz key channel via 3rd harmonic distortion. That took care of all the rural area problems with the keyless entry systems, but problems remain in big metro ares. My background if RF engineering makes me think the problem could involve 3rd-harmonic mixing in the 315 MHz key receiver being subjected to 929-932 MHz paging transmitters that are rife in large cities. I'll report what I find.

I don’t have the Enter and Drive system, just the standard key. I don’t think its the battery, it works intermittently, but when it works it works just fine. I can check the other key fob to see if it works as a way to see if the battery might be weak but the car is only 1 year old and I would be very surprised if it were the battery. Additionally, the car is supposed to sense a low battery and let you know it needs replacing and I have not gotten any messages like that from the car. Strange.
more gremlins
Well, the key fob has been working the last few times but driving today I got two warning messages saying there were failures in the PSM and the All Wheel Drive system. I suspect these are gremlins and they will resolve on restart as similar episodes have in the past, but it does not inspire confidence.
Well, today the car sent me the message to replace they key battery, which i did and all problems are solved.
The other warning lights have not reappeared and all seems well. The car’s too smart for its own good. Still love it though.

Does anyone know if a dealer or a good locksmith have the ability to reprogram these porsche flip keys or that long smart key that seems to be giving headaches? PS you seem to know a lot about this remote subject.

I had some problems with my key: key not recognized, wouldn't unlock the doors, wouldn't unlock the hatch, etc. It was an intermittent problem that seemed to be getting worse. I replaced the battery and it still occurred, although less often.
The dealer told me to change to the other key. I did and had no more problems. Then they ordered a new key, programmed it to my car and both keys work flawlessly.
