Ipod won’t play
Ipod won’t play
I have checked the connections, re-conncected, etc. etc. The Ipod info displays on the PCM but no sound comes out. The ipod plays fine when not connected. Is there something I have overlooked or do I need to go to the dealer on this one? Very frustrating.
Ipod wont play either...
I am interested to hear what you find out. I took delivery 2 weeks ago on a 2011 and I get the same thing, shows up on PCM, artist, song title etc., but no volume.
I tried both very old and maybe 3 yr old ipods, and 2 different cables with no luck.
I was looking forward to a direct connection with the Bose system....
Thanks,

If you use normal Apple iPod cable it will only charge and show the songs but it won't give you sound bc the sound comes out of the non-usb part of the cable.
I hope it's clear. And good luck guys..
There was no cable with the car when I got in in April of 2010. There is only one plug into the car, I have always used a standard cable with a USB connection. It used to work fine, it doesn’t now.....
I had the same problem when i took delivery to my Panamera. The funny thing was my sisters iPhone 3GS worked but my iPod touch gen1 didnt. So i figured out it was probably a firmware problem with the iPod. So i reverted my jailbroken iPod back to the NEWEST apple firmware and VOILA!! Music from my iPod. Hope it helps.

Jailbreak...WTF???
I, too, am having trouble. My iPod is 20GB Classic (I guess). I found the data screen on the iPod and is says it has version 3.1.1, but it says nothing about firmware. I am quite sure it needs a firmware update but I have no idea how to do that.
Right now, when I connect the iPod to the P-car and tune to "AUX" I get no recognition that the iPod is connected. Can any of you point me in the right direction to resolve this?

The PCM system does not recognize older generation iPods or iPod Touches due to old firmware; there are various web sites that discuss how to update the firmware on these devices outside of iTunes. I haven't done it, so I can't vouch for the success. Once updated, the iPod should be recognized.
I actually tend to use DVDs with MP3s burned on them. One disc can last a long trip on shuffle mode (I did that on a drive from Chicago to Atlanta last week).

Dealer chimes in
Took the car up to Ann Arbor (Howard Cooper) for an oil change, some recall work, and asked them to fix my Ipod problem. They feel its the cable, and have ordered me a new one at $69. I hope they are right, I suspect they are not, but I will let them order the cable, because when it doesn’t solve the problem, I won’t have to pay for it.
Also had a check engine light come on last week, its a failed thermostat, part is on order. Those japanese cars are starting to look better, tired of the little niggling problems and the repeated trips to Ann Arbor at my expense.

I have been told by knowledgeable people that the problem is NOT the cable. The older iPods just won't work. I have updated with firmware and the latest from iTunes and my older iPod just will not work in the Panamera.
It would be neat to find a way around the issue but I have not so far.

This may sound stupid but possibly turn up the volume on the iPod. When I was trying to get pandora to play on my blackberry I had the same issue until I turned up the volume on the blackberry - seemed dumb but it worked and stumped me for hours.
Stupid - but possible.

If you are using an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 & it's not working, then It's not the cable. The PCM software needs to be updated. All 2011s and newer don't come with a cable. The regular cable you have from your iPhone works. Just have the dealer update your PCM software.
I have a new ipod nano, purchased in April of 2010 because my older ipod would not work with the Panamera. That is not the issue, and again, my ipod worked great for 15 months before suddenly failing. I am not using an iphone, it is not a software problem.
Problem solved
The cable they ordered didn't work, as I knew it wouldn't. They took my ipod to another panamera and it wouldn't play. Then, the tech decided to reboot the ipod, and that solved all the problems. It was an ipod problem. It would play normally through speakers or headphones, but would not work with the PCM in the Porsche but does now after the reboot. Kind of embarrassed
that I didn't think to try that myself.
Bottom line, try to reboot the ipod if you are having problems....
