I had my windows redone after they scratched up bad the first time. Being busy and not knowing what to expect taking the door panels off, I asked the dealer how much and they told me $280 per door to put the felt on!!! Once I figured out how the panels came off it took me all of 10 minutes to do each door. I ordered a kit form here http://www.tintprotector.com/

I have not had any more scratching problems.

The quality of the film used also plays into longevity in addition to have a felt liner applied. Here's our tests:

I asked the garage I usually go to add the felt on the weather strips, I was there, it took him 3 hours each door! So I do one door at a time, so far only done the front two. Mind sharing your tips on how you could do one door in 10 mins?

BTW the driver's side was done yesterday, but after he put the door back together, the one flick auto (closing/opening all the way) feature of the window is gone (only) on the driver's side, anyone knows how to set it back without going back to dealer?

I just found out from the dealer:
1) "one-touch operation" is how the auto window opening/closing are called offically, the following is quoted from www.porscheownersmanuals.com:
Information
The rocker switches have a two-stage function. Both detent positions can be felt clearly when you actuate the switch.

– First setting – manual operation
If the switch in question is moved to the first setting, the window is
opened or closed manually.
The window stops when the switch is released.

– Second setting – one-touch operation
If the switch in question is moved completely to the second setting,
the window is opened or closed automatically.
Actuate the switch again to stop the window at the desired position.
2) To reset the "one-touch" opening, first close the window all the way up, let go of the window switch, then open the window with the switch pushed all the way down to the "Second setting" and hold the switch until 30 sec AFTER the window got opened all the way down before letting go of the switch

3) To reset the "one -touch" closing, first open the window all the way down, let go of the window switch, then close the window with the switch pulled all the way up to the " Second setting" and hold the switch until 30 sec AFTER the window got closed all the way up before letting go of the switch

Hope it helps whoever got him/herself in the same situation

+1 ... add felt and get an all-ceramic film, no issues at all.

Just bought a 2011 Panamera 4 yesterday, White on black. Mods to come

Fabspeed exhaust
fabspeed intake
20 turbo wheels
window tint if i ever find someone to do it.

Then enjoy the Milage i am gonna get!

thanks
Although many would say it is unnecessary, it is generally among window tinters to not do this because applying a felt guard of some type requires the removal of the door panels....this actually scares many installers, so they would rather not offer it. Many high-end shops do offer it as they typically have more experience with luxury and exotics.

The Panamera uses a plastic moulding, so it can potentially scratch tint. Most vehicles have some type of felt molding. BMW 3series sedans would be another vehicle that should have felt installed to protect the tint.

Let me know...we can use Formula One Pinnacle film and have had many experience doing a panamera. Send me a PM if you're interested. As part of the service, interior gets a minor detail since installers get residue on interior panels.

This tint issue is a confussing one. I spoke to my installer today. Very reputable tint installer here in SoCal. Does all the cars dealers in Beverly Hills Ferrari/Porsche etc. He said that he has done a lot of Panameras and you cannot properly add felt to these cars because the way the plastic guide raps all around the window. He seemed to know what he was talking about. He said unfortunately there really is not a sure bet on the Panameras that they won't scratch.

Your window tint installer is correct in that the molding does wrap around the frame, however, there is flexibility in this molding that will allow for the felt to be added. This does take quite a bit of precision to get right. We will take pics the next time we get a Panamera in to show the final result.

For those not familiar with Spectra PhotoSync, it is a nano window film that will adjust its nano properties to perform better when exposed to direct solar radiation (sunlight). The result is the film's heat rejecting properties begin to change to block up to 98.5% of infrared rays. This video below shows this effect:

Manufacturer: Prestige Film Technologies (prestige-films.com)

As promised, here is a Panamera GTS we just completed with Spectra PhotoSync 75 on the windshield and 65% on the sides. We also added tintguard to the plastic moldings on all four doors to protect the tint from getting scratched over time. As mentioned before, it takes extreme precision to get it right for the Panamera moldings because the plastic liner wraps around the entire frame of the glass.

+1 Tint Protector felt has been great on both my BMW and my Benz. No scratches in 2+ years.

Great service and a first rate product.
