Down pipes.....? A change on PTT

For PTT owners and your "real world" experiences with exhaust mods, when you change down pipes to achieve less restriction......

On either stock or aftermarket cat-back systems -

Do you get much better noticeable performance HP, TQ?

Do you get an increase in sound?

And yes, I'm clueless in this department.
Thanks in advance for some replies..

Do you feel 30hp+ on this heavy car? You do if you really knew your car before, if you just got it and drove it a few miles you wont. Sound wise, there is no difference in my opinion, you do see things move faster tho.

I did tune and DP at the same time, but before my car wouldnt burn rubber, not I can't floor it all the way, even on new tires.

Smell is a factor as you will smell it when inside your garage.

I have full fabspeed and I do hear it louder, then again with full exhaust, I did all at the same time, so worth every penny in my opinion.

I did the downpipes and y pipe no tune yet. I feel a difference lag is a lot less. And it does break traction if I stomp on it

Well I previously had a '13 F10 M5 so I understand the ponies and torque feel of these kinds of cars. To date I think the PTT and the M are close using the old butt meter. When I had an axel back E race on the F10 and a full cat back RPI system on my previous E60 M5, you definitely knew there were better responses. Maybe not so much in HP but the cars both felt quicker, lighter and more responsive.

Glad - I should be able to answer this shortly. I have '14 PTT and put the order in for the DP's and sport cats a couple of weeks ago. I'm hoping to have them on in a couple of weeks. Also, I have a sport exhaust from the factory so I'm not going to swap that.

Cheers,

One of the more noticeable advantages to upgraded downpipes is the quicker turbo spool. As mentioned above, the power difference is more readily felt if you are very "in-tune" with your car, but the response is something that most people instantly notice. Couple this with a tune (which will increase boost pressure and consequently demand on the turbo) and you're looking at a nice synergistic effect.

Cheers,
Stock PSE mufflers with downpipes (catted or catless) is a great sounding setup with power gains.... unless of course you want it super loud - then add AM rear section.

agree - just do it all (down, mid and muffler) with a muffler system that has a valves control if worried about wide open all the time...

Hey guys, I have a '12 PTTS. I just had GMG install their downpipes/sport cat system as described in this thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...available.html

I also had them do an x-pipe midsection. I do NOT have a tune yet.

I dynoed before and after on the same dyno (different shop) and saw no gains whatsoever. Has anybody else dynoed before and after (without a tune) and seen gains?

That said, it eliminated like 90% of the turbo lag, made it MUCH more a driver's car and much more fun to drive. I would do it again in a heartbeat. It sounds great, as well.
