The market for these has gotten pretty competitive, but if it's at the right price point who knows.

Also, how big/intrusive would it be to mount to the windshield/mirror? Any prototype pics?

It will be release towards the end of the month and I am receiving about 10 units. Lcd is 3.5 inch so would be little wider and about 3/8 inch thick.
It will have optional lane departure sensor and radar detector. Option for hardwire or cigarette jack power. I am going to install it to windshield front and back.

I have one of these. Its called a DASH CAM.
I reasearched these things for the last 5 months. I had an accident before I pulled the triggered on installation. It could have helped me.

The one I have do everything that you are saying for $50 (no lane departure), takes pictures and records voice as well. I even have another one for $25. It has a G sensor, motion sensor, records in FULL HD and it has a 2.7" screen. Yes, I would option for the LUKAS for $200 which is a top of the line dash cam but I first have to see how they perform in the field. So I got a $50 dash cam from Novatek G1W and its great. I can post some videos if anybody wants to see the quality for $50. You will find them on ebay and amazon. There is a crap load of them everywhere.
If you want top of the line dash cam go with LUKAS ($200-250) at http://lukasstore.com or BlackVue. Those are the the best ones on the market.

I just finished installing a power outlet to turn it off with ignition. Next project will be to hook one up on the rear window. I aleady have 2 of them (font and back) in my BMW. They work very well. I put the $25 on the rear window.

Its an old idea. Some point in the future it will save your or someones a$$. Worth every penny.

Nice comparison table: http://dashboardcamerareviews.com/da...parison-table/

Of if you want to study these go to the MAIN source: http://www.rdforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=132

Doktorek, thanks for your insight. Once I get the unit here I will send you some pics and more details. I can't provide too much details yet but will keep you posted and also others here. This one also has a function where if it senses any movement it will turn on automatically and if preset voltage setting of the car drops it will shut itself down. Again I am new to black box but my friend's company has been making them for 6 years and been supplying to secondary distributor for sale.

Would you pay over 300 for touch screen with live front and rear camera display?

Doktorek pretty much hit it on the head. These dash cams are at the point where people wished other tech gadgets were. Impressive performance from cams in the $50-100 range and ~$200-300 for the top dogs. It doesn't seem like many people want to spend a whole lot more than the $100 units when they perform just about as well as the $200 counterparts.

The motion sensor thing is pretty prevalent in quite a few systems and does the same thing (turns on with motion and times itself out).

At that price point, I personally wouldn't see it selling. Touchscreen isn't a 100% necessity on these.

Features that I think would be very useful in these dash cams would be:
-Live view on an app (iOS/Android)
-Detachable features (built in battery for temp. pictures outside or in case of an accident where battery disconnects)
-Mobility (Ability to move from car to car easily. The same idea as having a hardwire and being able to move radar detector from car to car)

I know some units have the mobility part, but I'm specifically talking about units that sell extra harnesses for multiple cars so you can literally just move the unit/mount. I'm not 100% sure if any brand does this yet since I've been looking.

I wouldnt pay $300 for touchscreen. Why? Because once you set it on the window - you dont touch anything. Camera comes on with ignition and turns of with ignition. You can get a seperate rear one and hook it up to the cig lighter adapter or to the fuxe box in the trunk.

I myself have not played with any of the black box before so I am looking forward to testing it out. Thanks for your input so far. I don't know why but ever since I got my Pan 4s I had so many people wanting to race off the line or cut me off or just have close calls on the road. I always thought to myself it would be nice to have a dash cam. Have a great 4th guys!

What model is that? And has the suction cup ever fallen off? My V1 always fell off w/ the suction cups, but it looks like this has that clamping suction like the GoPro mounts
