Settling of air suspension
Settling of air suspension
The air suspension on my 2013 Panamera GTS has a strange tendency to settle to its lowest ride height position in Sport Plus mode when it's parked after a period of time. It's weird....I'll drive the car in Sport Plus, park the car and it will still be somewhat high, and not as low as I would like. If I return to the car and open one of the rear doors or the trunk, as soon as the door opens, you can hear the air suspension motor activate and the car then lowers by another inch or so to its lowest position.
Do any of you have this same issue? The air suspension seems to operate after the car has been shut off.
I would like the car to sit in its lowest ride height setting the first time, when the car is parked and the ignition is turned off. I even sometimes let the car sit for 10 or 15 seconds before shutting it off to help it "settle", but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Lately I've been driving my PTT on Sports Plus air suspension setting and I've never noticed it activate air suspension while it's parked.. I know GTS is seating slightly lower than PTT, but that's overall, sports plus should still work the same way.
I also know that if something is changed in the suspension, you need to re-calibrate your air shocks. Have you stopped by your P dealer?

GTS and PTT have same ride height in Sport Plus. Also, my PTT does the same thing as the OP. I'll park my car, shut it off, lock it, then the suspension will lower down to the 'publicity shot' setting. Awesomeness.
Not so awesome if the front bumper just cleared the curb or parking bumper and then lowered after parking.
I've never heard of recalibrating the air shocks. How is this done? Is this done by the dealer?
My air suspension definitely has some strange anomalies....it will not fully lower when parked, but I can return to the car an hour later and open the trunk, then the air will release from the shocks, lowering it to its lowest setting. It's strange, and not ideal.
I will bring it in to the dealer.

Had my 2013 GTS in a week ago for switch of winter wheels/tires to summer set, change oil/filter and check alignment. The tech corrected the alignment and adjusted the air suspension, which was also off from spec. Updated the PCM as well.
I will make an appointment to bring it in, but I would like to be armed with knowledge before speaking with my service adviser.
Not only do I feel my car is off from spec, as it rides too high, but it definitely has this mind of its own thing as well that needs to be fixed.

Chances are you are chasing temperature change adjustments. As you drive the car, the air bags and the air inside get rather warm. Which means the air is expanded. After you stop the car and the air bags cool off, the vehicle will be at a different height or lower.
You could even have the opposite scenario. If you stop the car on a rather cool morning, the air inside the bags could increase in temp as the ambient temp increases.
Good idea to have the dealer check it out as well.

I have the alignment printout in the car, but...
Andrew, what was off about the air suspension that needed to be adjusted?

Air Suspension Compressor Failure
the tech said that the air suspension setting had the front lower than it should have been and the back higher. Tech should be happy to review the alignment printout with you that will indicate in red where settings are out of spec. I could immediately feel the handling difference after the adjustment to suspension and alignment, where the left rear camber was off. Of course the handling improved going to Michelin PSS from the winter compound Sotto Zeros on Turbo II wheel that are only 11" at the rear.
I have an issue that someone here may have faced… My GTS Suspension Pump exploded about a month ago. I ordered a remanufactured one from RMT. I installed it and it worked fine for about a month. I noticed a couple of days ago, I went in the garage and the front of the vehicle was all the way down and rear was normal height. I got in an immediately a system failure fault pops up. Car won’t raise up, again! Usually like you have stated when I open the door the pump kicks on. Well I get this couple seconds hiss but no movement. I leave my car in comfort mode all the time. I noticed some of you leave yours in sports plus, is there a reason for that? I checked 40 amp fuse and it is good so it would lead me to think that I have a bad leak or a bad pump replacement. The car might lower slightly on the front left side if I leave it parked a weak… before I replace this second pump any suggestions?
If you car is dropping overnight (or a couple nights) then sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Typically, the front top strut mounts start leaking first. But, just a leaking strut usually won’t trip a fault unless the air tank is empty too.
did you replace the manifold valve block at the same time? After replacing the compressor, did you leak check all the fittings when pressurized?
