Wondering if the new BMW 6 series alpina version with 600 hp would be an alternative to the PTT when i move on?

Not apples to apples, but I had a B7 and I'd say the PTT is much lighter on its feet. Cornering is significantly better on the Porsche.

Parts for repairs also need to be ordered and take forever to get to your dealer, so simple jobs require long stays in service.

Hope that helps.

From what I've read in head-to-head comparisons, the Panamera corners significantly better than any other competing sedan. Most of these Euro sports sedans boost the power numbers and dragstrip times because it's an easy bullet point for advertising. Spending engineering time and money on sophisticated suspensions doesn't look like a good return on investment to them, because no one expects a sedan to corner well - unless it's a Porsche.

The video comparing track performance of the PTT to an Audi RS7 is what sticks in my mind, because you can see visible body roll on the RS7, and the Panamera just doesn't, it's perfectly flat through the corners.

That may or may not matter to you. Most of us don't push our cars that hard in reality. I've never had mine over 0.8 G.

Thanks LAAlpina and Gus for responding, you both make good points.
My dilemma is trying to find a replacement for the PTT that will be as engaging - as debated in other threads here
The S7/S8 just isnt there for me, and i am not a Merc person. I read the M6 rides fairly harsh, so i thought perhaps the B6.

If I were you I'd spend some time on the Bimmerfest forum, you might find it very educational. I looked into a B7 and I can tell you it is not going to come close to what you have now. The biggest issue I have with modern BMW's is the stupid decision to put big wheels (that are not light) and Run Flats on their sport editions. That makes for terrible handling, crappy steering feel (like have four boulders on the corners) and bent wheels. I have bought two 650's since December both have had wheels and tires changed.

Thank MrPrice for your comments. I am on Bimmerfest as well; unfortunately there is nothing on the Alpina version - they do tweak the suspension and their wheels are lighter. Comments on the 650 grand coupe remark that with 19 inch rims, tire swap and dynamic suspension it is fine. Of course the Alipina comes with 20's

I took the run flats off the panamera as well with good effect.

What setup do you have your 650 now, and why did you go through 2 cars? Do you like the car overall? Have you compared to the PTT?

Thanks

Actually I bought 2 cars one for me, one for the girlfriend. She is getting a Z06 as well. I have a coupe she has a convertible. I already have a convertible. I like the 650, mine has Dinan stage 1 and shockware. If I remember correctly the B7 I drove had 21's on it and I could feel the weight of those wheels and tires on the corners. I tend to be bothered by things other people seem to not be so it might just be me. The B7 felt big and heavy to me in a straight line it was fine but it is not a drivers car, at least not for this driver.
