Panamera 4S 4.8 engine ping

Hi all,

as per my thread subject. does any of the P4S 4.8 have engine ping issue?

it happen to my car on low rpm. For an example- constant speed, constant throttle, if the road grade changes uphill slightly and I try to maintain the speed it will start to ping.

The moment I downshift the ping would go away.

any owners is having this same issue?

any pointers to look into this problem?

I believe Porsche specified a mini octane rating of 90 (US rating system). Try adding some octane booster to the tank.

A 90 AKI is equivalent to 95 RON according to my owner’s manual so assuming the fuel is good quality. Octane requirement is covered.

Next would be carbon buildup. How many miles on car? Higher miles cars with these DI engines can build up carbon causing pinging.

Hey all, resurrecting this thread, I have the exact same problem with my Panamera 4S, it's more noticeable when the weather/engine is hot and going slightly uphill.
The ping is greater when the PDK upshifts even in sport mode. I changed the coils and spark plugs, it helped a bit but it didn't solve the problem entirely.
When doing this service, the mechanic checked and noticed carbon buildup deposits at cylinder 1 so by looking at the last post that could be the problem.
The car has 140000 miles.
I'm wondering why there is no check engine in this case since the noise is really audible and no fault codes
