Switch from a 997.2 911 4S to 2017 Panny 4S?
Switch from a 997.2 911 4S to 2017 Panny 4S?
Hey,
I'm contemplating selling my 997.2 4S and getting a 2017 Panamera 4S. I like the new design, updated interior/tech and more space (kids and dog). My question is: has anyone here done something similar and what has your experience been so far? Regrets?
I do track my car and would track the Panny 4s as well. Does it handle anything close to a modern 911? The Panny does 0-60 in 4.2 secs, so it's fast, but how does it handle?

I have a 991.1 and a PGTS. I did one DE with the Panny. It handled very well considering it weighs 4250 lbs. It has PDCC so cornering was flat but photographs during the event showed the front tires were quite distorted but they survived without any issues. As long as your inputs are smooth it’s a fun drive but you will miss the 911. If I had to choose between the two, the Panny would win, without hesitation, due to the mix of utility and sportiness. For me it’s a lateral move relative to the 911, not a step down.
Traded my 997.2 for a Pana... Liked both cars. 911 was special but got little use, Pana is AWD and I have used it two tough northeast winters. I miss the 911, I do like the Pana.
So to shorten my answer, both cars are great, but different. After being tired of seeing the 911 parked all winter I made the move. Now that it s not there, O well....
911 would have been a lifetime keeper, Pana not so much, it will be an old outdated sedan at some point. I m rambling but you get my thoughts I hope. Either way your doing well!

I went from a 2009 (997.2) 4S Cabriolet (and a 2012 987.2 Boxster) to a 2017 Panamera 4S. Regrets? No. All three are great cars, but the Panamera is the Jack-of-all-trades in the bunch, so if you have practical requirements like a need for a back seat or more cargo space, the choice is obvious. In terms of driving pleasure, I miss the Boxster more than the 911, simply because the Boxster is a small, relatively light weight, very toss-able car in a way that neither the 911 nor the Panamera can quite match. The 997.2 is already getting to be a heavy-ish car, and the relative difference to the Panamera is less. It also helps that the Panamera is quite fast, as you note, in fact mine feels faster than my old 911 just from a seat-of-the-pants impression. In terms of interior design and technology, there is no comparison; the Panamera is in a different league from the 997/987 cars, and from most anything else out there now. Good luck with your search.
Thanks for the feedback -- much appreciated.
One piece of the puzzle I forgot to mention is that our 2nd car is a Macan S. So, I do have that to lug stuff around in. Maybe I'll wait a year and get the 992, which will have all the cool tech stuff as well.

2017 panamera 4s
and A 2016 macan S
i want a 911 but it’s just not practical at my age 42 with young kids and all that they require. The panny replaced a 2016 cayenne GTS and I’ve been able to lug around stuff for my businesses almost just as well.
