Lesson learned with hood struts

So kind of a keystone cops thing, but I got a lesson learned...

I went to check the coolant level, and left the cap off while I went to get a flashlight, I knew the hood struts were a little weak, but didn’t think much of it...three steps away from the car and I heard a “thunk”, went back to see the hood had fallen, and broke the coolant cap in the process!

So I had to order in a new, and hood struts.

I went to put on the struts to notice the driver side had a lock on it, sure enough the old one did too (dang it).

So if you need to work under the hood press the “button” and extend the hood to max vertical until the button clicks in the next slot. I’m sure it’s in the manual, but I missed it. Oh well, needed new struts anyway, but not another coolant reservoir cap

Hope this helps someone else

I just ordered new struts as well and after reading this I remember my mechanic putting the hood in the service position when working on my car. This serves as a good reminder to use this feature in the future to save the struts.

it's a good thing it didn't dent the hood. that would be far more annoying than a broken cap.

Good to know! Is it an actual button release on the struts themselves?

Sorry you learned the hard way for all of our benefit 🤘😊
