Panamera Lowering Link - Plastic sensor broke during installation - Need help!
I was in the process of replacing my OEM lowering links so I can bring my car in for service to have the air suspension checked out. I have a slow leak in one of the airbags and I didn’t want to bring the car to the dealership to service the air suspension with a set of aftermarket lowering links. I didn’t want them to blame my problem on an aftermarket part.
As I replaced the OEM links on the rear, I think I placed them in the wrong position. The rear links pivot forward (away from you) and back (towards you). I think that I accidentally installed the OEM links with them pushed forward, away from me. When I went to adjust the air suspension with the buttons in the car, the rear of the car lowered waaaay down and the front of the car was jacked up high. It wouldn’t adjust any more after that, no matter what buttons I pushed. I didn’t get the Chassis Failure message but there was something definitely wrong.
I took off the rear wheels and noticed that my passenger rear plastic lowering control bracket cracked! It’s a thin, fragile plastic piece. I think it cracked because the linkage was pushed into the wrong position, away from me.
I called Porsche Parts and the replacement part is $325! It’s part #97033302204.
I was able to glue the cracked piece back together, and I am hoping it will be a temporary fix until I drive to the dealership for service.
My big question is what position should the rear lowering links be in when they are connected? Should they be back towards you or should they be pushed up and inward? Again, unlike the front links, the rear can pivot into two positions....forward or back towards you? The correct position seems like it should pulled back towards you. Can someone please confirm?
I went with my gut and positioned the links and sensor arm pulled towards myself, and voila, it worked! The epoxy also seems to be holding for now, but I did order that replacement part.
