aftermarket reversing camera
aftermarket reversing camera
Question for the group. I have an aftermarket rear view camera on my 2011 4S, it works fine, displays on the PCM etc... But it doesn't have the moving guide lines. I would think the firmware should be in the PCM to enable these ( I do have Park Assist) but I'm not sure. Porsche dealership is no help with this as if it isn't factory installed, they won't touch it.
My guess as hardware engineer, is the PCM overlays the info onto the camera display. Camera only provides picture, PCM processes it, that is why you can turn these on/off via PCM settings, and can adjust their intensity, etc.
Since you have aftermarket camera, my bet is the software from PCM does not process the camera image fully, hence no overlay. Somehow the PCM must know what camera is plugged in.
If you wish for the lines, why not get replacement oem camera? I saw them on ebay. Would be extra cost for you though.

That’s a interesting thought. I wouldn’t think the PCM would differentiate between cameras as the current one works and integrates into the system but you may be correct. Do you have the link for the replacement camera that you could post?
