CEL still exists!

Damn. I have an intermittent CEL that throws a code of P3081 ehich reads as a coolant temperature sensor on VW/Audi reader (I dont have Durametric).

When I took the car in for a check up on the code, they said it could be the coolant temperature sensor. The other pieces have been replaced (thermostat housing) by dealership a while back.

So, replaced the thermostat and started it up again - letting it run until such time as the thermostat kicks on again and boom, same CEL pops up. P3081.

What else could it be?

Edit: coolant is leaking so could be something else causing the code. Will go back to diagnostic time

Coolant temp sensor is not the same as the thermostat and housing. The sensor is screwed into the engine...
It is #12 on the image. Torque is 22FtLbs

1. Pressure sensor (low-pressure)

2. Pressure and temperature sensor

3. Temperature sensor

4. Phase sensor

5. Hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment

6. rpm sensor

7. Oil level sensor

8. Oil pressure sender with temperature sensor

9. Knock sensor

10. Hydraulic valve for valve lift adjustment

11. Phase sensor

12. Coolant temperature sensor

Thanks Ciaka! I learned that the hard way lol looks like there are two temp sensors though, right? One behind the block (#12) and the other on a coolant line?
