[Sunday, June 24th 8-9:00 Meet; 9:15 Departure] Scenic Maryland Covered Bridge Tour

[Sun, June 24th 8-9:00 meet; 9:15am Departure]

Chesapeake PCA - Scenic Maryland Covered Bridge Tour

The last 2 Fun Runs have been building for this: THE BIG ONE!!!

When: Sunday, June 24th. We will meet between 8:00 – 9:00am for a prompt 9:15am departure time.

Where: We will gather in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut in Mt. Airy, MD. There are several gas stations and places to get coffee and breakfast also… Directions below:

Bring: A full tank of gas, an appetite, money for food ($20 should more than cover the meal), and a FRS or GMRS handheld radio (tuned to channel 7, subchannel 21) if you own one! It’s not a necessity to own a radio but it makes it easier for us to keep in contact. Gina and I picked up our radios at Costco for $75.00 which included 3 radios, charger base and earbuds…

RSVP: Please RSVP to bull_30@verizon.net or repond this thread. Let me know how many will be attending…

Event Fee: FREE and open to all PCA members.

Route: This route will take us through 2 little known tunnels, 3 covered bridges, following the Civil War Trail through very historic areas of Maryland and down the Catoctin Watershed. The scenery on this tour is breathtaking and the roads are VERY twisty. Three breaks are planned along route arriving 1:30pm at the VERY scenic PB Dye Golf Club for lunch… The restaurant is excellent and the prices extremely reasonable. There will be some tremendous photo opportunities on this run so bring the cameras and/or video equipment… For those that attended the May 20th Civil War Tour... A few of the roads are the same but many are different with many more scenic and twisty roads added...

Questions? PM me or you can Email me at: bull_30@verizon.net... Everyone will get detailed directions the day of the event…

Directions to Pizza Hut in Mt. Airy:
From RT 70 Baltimore Area:
Get off RT 70 at Exit 68 which is RT 27 Mt. Airy exit… At the light at the end of the exit ramp continue straight across RT 27 and you will see the Pizza Hut on the RIGHT… We are meeting in the parking lot…

From the DC Area:
Take RT 270 North to Exit 16 Father Hurley Blvd... On the exit ramp bear right and follow signs toward Damascus... Once you cross RT 355 Father Hurley Blvd. becomes RT 27... Stay on RT 27 thru Damascus and continue to the first light past RT 70... Turn LEFT at the light and you will see the Pizza Hut on the RIGHT... We are meeting in the parking lot...

From other areas: Use your GPS or favorite online mapping program and head to address:

PIZZA HUT
1705 Ridgeside Dr
Mount Airy, MD 21771

The tour is now listed on the Chesapeake PCA website... I ran the route on Memorial Day and had a blast... Since we're starting this run in Mt. Airy, I've been able to add a lot more to the tour route... I'm looking for to seeing old friends and meeting new ones... You can sign up this thread or at the website... I would love to but this is really far. Is there any way we can try to set something up in the Virginia area as well? Not necessarily for this thread, but I thought i would ask. Thanks.

Sorry yo can't make it... This is an incredible run... I do plan on doing something in VA in August... Got to get past the June and July events at the moment....

In July I may do the PA Dutch Country Tour which takes in some beautiful back roads and 10 Covered Bridges... It's a VERY long tour... Let's see how everyone does on the 24th... The 24th is about 4hrs 15min which includes 3 breaks...
