You don't know what's beyond the pistons once you pull the case apart. Crank could be scored with the rods

That would prob save a few hours of work so you can drive home with your engine.
no I'm having him ship it back

possible but didn't sound like spun bearing. Dealt with tons of this on Subarus. Sounded more like a rods knock. It was a very light knock.

Hope all is ok internally Freddy. In case you do have a damaged crank however, I have a mint condition low mileage one on hand.

Freddy, while you've got everything all apart is there any way it would be convenient or easy for you to take a few pics of the engine wiring harness, I'm trying to trace where/if the wires providing 12v power to the ignition coils come together... No worries if that's not easy to access for you.

All loaded up and ready to go...until I realised I had a bad front wheel bearing on the pickup last night. I well, on the way to Vegas today.

What about injectors, rails, fpr, bigger fuel lines, TB, radiators, clutch, fuel pumps, tune, mafless, gt3 oil pump, grind cams.

Have SRM check on the porting job you did to make sure there in spec.

I would change out all bearings in trans, change out 4-6 gears to new brass syncros.
