Alignment or natural wear pattern

I had my 2006 C4 in for an oil change today and the mechanic pointed our wear on our four times...significant wear on the inside of each tire. Of course they offered me new tires, but I'm going to shop around. Since all four appear to be needed I may switch to Michelin Pilot SS. I asked the mechanic, "Since all are wearing on the inside doesn't that indicate I need an alignment?" He said No. That's the way the 911 wears. It doesn't sound right to me, but I knew the forum gurus would know.

Inside rear tire wear is normal with the factory alignment specs. It can be reduced go altering those specs with less negative camber and less toe in to prolong tire life. I just had my wife's C2S aligned over the weekend and can post up the settings I use for it that gets her about 20,000 miles out of a rear set of Hankook Evo2 tires, but she doesn't drive the car very aggressively, so we're less concerned about absolute handling and more focused on tire wear. If you drive the car aggressively, you may want slightly less conservative #s, but I drove it home aggressively and it handles fine up to 6 or 7 tenths. Below is the alignment sheet on this one.

On my silver RUF car with coilovers and full RSS Stage 2 suspension, I run GT3 alignment specs with sticker Nitto Invo tires, but with the tire type and alignment specs, wear them out sooner.

When we bought our '08c4 the rear Michelin ps2's were severely worn on the inside. I had them replaced with conti DWS' and had it aligned at a VW dealership. I don't know their settings but I now have 15K on the conti's and the wear front and rear is even and actually show very little wear.
