ok did the Trunk... good god that was brutal, it has to be one of the most difficult pieces on the entire car... this was ONE PIECE! and it took me 4.5 hours! Im not 100% satisfied with the result so if I have leftover vinyl on my roll after I'm done I'll probably redo it. It is passable though and you can only see issues if you're right up close and looking for them.

this part here alone took me an hour!!!

Finished product... seriously what a pain! glad it is done, was up till 1AM last night finishing it or wrapping it up

I will say this is a nice project, wrapping isn't annoying, but relaxing... the intimacy level is high as you will learn literally every square centimeter about the body of your car, all in all, I can't wait to finish the rest, going to go to town this weekend on it!

was wondering if people were actually reading comments

anyways I did a door sill today, not too bad, had my wife help me and made it a million times easier. Started from the underside and worked my way up, seemed to be a pretty effective way to do it!

Used knifeless tape underneath the car about 3" in from the edge so you can't see it and it will stick better and is a nice clean cut! I didn't jack up the car because it would get in the way IMO

Looks good though was able to tuck the wrap under the weather stripping under the door so that part looks super clean, around the wheel wells not as clean but I am happy with the result for now, all in all took about an hour to do, other side will probably go faster, most of the time was spent cleaning up the underside of the car

Can't wait to see it in person! Also can't wait to hear how the quarter panels go... given that it's a solid panel from the quarter all along the cant rail, I understand that part can be difficult.

My helper wasn't around today so I did what I could, so it was INLAY SUNDAY

Parts that are too deep to contour the wrap into need to have an inlay in them. since I'm not disassembling the side strakes I needed inlays there, and also some on the front grille area... I didn't do the underneath one just yet as its a pain and i need to make a template with tape... futzing around trying to do a mirror 4 times to get it right took up the time I had to do that.

So yeah I took off the grille, to do that you get your 27 (or 30?) torx screwdriver out and remove the 8 million screws on the plate covering the radiator, then there are 6 more torx screws you access through the front of the grille and two pain in the *** 6mm bolts you have to undo from the backside of the bracket to remove the grille

next you want to lay some knifeless tape on the outer edge of the body line like this, don't worry about the back edge as its a hangover edge so you can cut without worry there

Then get a fairly thick piece of vinyl, which you need because of the contour of the bumper piece right there, if you have a thin piece you'll need to bend it and it won't work because it will fold over on itself. Lay it in and press over the knifeless tape hard.

then pull the knifeless tape properly (takes some practice!) and boom you have a nice clean cut... I also did the underside of the front quarterpanels as those look to be a total bastard to lay into that part so I just did an inlay while I was there too.

I wound up doing basically the same thing with the side strakes, they actually look kind of cool this way, maybe someone can get some chrome film and put it in there like this, I think it would look interesting on some cars if done right!

I also finished my door handles today, very easy to do, just put a piece over the door handle, rubbed in the outline of the gap and made a template, then got some scissors and cut them out and put them on, little heat around the edges and boom nice and done, they aren't perfect but I can redo them if they are bugging me too much. I will probably redo this whole passenger side door because I effed up the keyhole pretty bad. I hope i have enough material at the end!

and last but not least this bastard of a mirror... did it in one piece... took 4 tries but man I think I really nailed it pretty good, also not perfect but very very very close! my 'glass game' is getting real good now

thats all for now folks, next update will probably have some big body panels done. Hitting the home stretch!

Just a quick update, I'm stuck on the front fender... getting massive bunching of the material so badly I can't seem to fix it... tried different things multiple times! Been trying to do it just myself though so thats probably part of the problem and not enough heat gun. Very frustrating and I have wasted a lot of material failing like 4 times now! Each time I do it its 72 inches of matieral x36 inches, so yeah... hopefully I can solve this puzzle. I don't like wasting so many hours or materials, but its a learning process right?

Hey...I admire you. Another idea maybe to go to a local sign a Rama store and ask one of their installers for advice or help...

We gave up long ago lettering etc...on our vans and trucks...

Just a thought..again Good Luck....

ShadowRacer is infamous around these parts
That is quite the task to take on! If this is your first foray into vinyl, I applaud you! Those close up shops really show your attention to detail! Good luck with the rest of the panels! Can't wait to see the completed pics!

This is my first use of vinyl... learning a lot so far!
So since my confidence was so shot from that front fender panel I decided tonight to tackle something easy... the blades in the rear tail lights to start

I have got the finish process down on the rounded parts, wish I knew that when I was doing some of the other panels!

and then to tackle that mother effing driver side mirror I can't seem to duplicate the results of from the passenger side... tried at least 8 times, this one mirror took me over 2 hours and it stilll looks like garbage! At least the hairlines are on the inside where you can't see them. I will attempt again when the other parts of the car are done but for now its fine.
