Posting requirements seem a bit high and spam causing

Must make 10 posts to view signatures, and somebody else was saying it's 15 to use PM's.

Most people aren't going to want to wait around to arrive at those numbers posting slowly and normally, which highlights the next logical step toward spam. Ending up with a pile of extra useless low quality posts.

I'd suggest dropping the requirements by at least 50%

Just 2 more posts until you can pm your buddies!! I imagine that is quite a hurdle to overcome!

Not that hard, just annoying and it promotes useless posts that are marginally more insiteful than spam.

All that being said, only 1 more to go. ;-p

I find that it does not promote useless posts, but rather, it makes individuals actually work to be able to really benefit from this site (other than just reading it).

And if someone is just making useless posts, that will be plainly obvious, and hopefully they would be dealt with promptly. The length of time required before the account is fully active, I think, prevents much of the spam.

If the need is to reduce spam, then it is a worthwhile hurdle. Just annoying when you're trying to learn something from the community, but you're partially blind. And it does beg meaningless posts (for which I've been spanked on another thread -- where I tried to make it harmless and fun). Oops. Me bad. I'm done now.

Here's my meaningless post.

I'm trying to buy a set of lights from a member and he innocently enough says............ "shoot me an email"

Then I find out I can't. Never seen this before and can't find how to contact an Admin or Mod anywhere here.

All I want them to do is send the guy a notification that I'm back in touch, or send him my personal email, or something.......

One post closer in Richmond, VA.............

Adolf Hitler, 1931

Just poking fun at the argument that numbers equate to doing things right.

10 posts is nothing, Ive belonged to forums which you need ~20 posts in order to post links. If anything the limit should be increased. Lowering it doesnt increase posting quality, enforcement of "quality standards" by the moderators increases posting quality.

We have been enforcing more strict classified rules on another forum I moderate, but we've had our share of post ****** trying to up their count just so they can put something up for sale. It can be frustrating, but necessary. Can't tell you how many classified threads I've had to delete. Lots of spammers out there, as well as cheats and crooks.

This site is GREAT. I'm not a big dog like a lot on here, but it seems like you guys treat new members pretty well. props.

While it is annoying to have a min post count, it is almost necessary with all the spammers.. without rules like that.. you would have half naked women shooting you PMs to visit their webcam site...

my vote it good call on the min count... It does prevent spam to an extent and makes it a better site IMO

Guess we missed that. But thanks for pointing out what you did. You're back to zero post count.
