in LA for a few days...recommendations?
Not really a restaurant, but Roll In Sandwich is a favorite of mine. It's known as "Buck Fifty" to the locals because it used to be $1.50 for a sandwich. I first ate there in 2000 and it was only $2.75 for a 12" steak sandwich with real bread, not crappy Subway or Quiznos bread. Whatever the price is now....it's worth it!!

i work in westwood, not very impressed with the restaurant selection there, i think napa valley grill is ok, but nothing stellar. there is an in n out and diddy reese is always good for cookies. hopefully you have a car and you can just drive over to beverly hills or santa monica to grab a good meal.
Il Moro is a good Italian place on the other side of the freeway on Olympic. Matteo's is also good, I think it's on Westwood. Good Thai is Chandara on Pico, between the 10 and the 405. Agree that Napa Valley Grill is just OK; you'd think with that name they'd have a better wine list. If you feel like going into West Hollywood there're a lot of good restaurants there: Katana (sushi), Lucque (French) among others. Stay away from Ago ... unless you feel like going shoulder to shoulder with the annoying Hollywood and wanna-be-Hollywood crowd. Great people watching can be had at the bar at the Peninsula, too!
