I got pulled for no front plate and a tint. Do I need to fix these or is there a way to just pay it? Everything I've seen says it needs to be fixed so the cop can write off on it, but there's no mention of the fine otherwise. Is it possible to just pay it?
I'm pretty sure you can just pay it.
As for the front plate, a lot of people will just duck tape it on and show the officer and have them right it off and then take it off after they leave. Or temporarily put it in the mesh up front if you any.
Also, if you have any law enforcement friends, you can take it to them and have them write it off.

I'm going to put my front plate on--I've gotten 4 tickets in the past 3 months, I'm sick of paying them. The tint is staying though, no way I'm driving a black on black car with all that glass in the summer. Guess I'll keep hunting though the maze that is LA county's court system, ugh.
Pay the bail amount of $114 for tinted windows and don't show up to trial. You will just forfeit your bail amount. You might want to call and confirm the amount. $114 was what I paid about a year ago.
Regarding the front plate, I've seen something that screws into the tow hook that you attach a license plate to. I'm pretty sure that would satisfy the cops enough to sign off on the ticket. Then you can take it back off.

Living in L.A, especially the westside, hollywood, Wilshire District you will get front plate ticket almost every week. I used to live on Doheny Dr. near Wilshire and collected 2 tickets a week. Decided to move to higher ground after 26 tickets. They have dedicated meter maids driving around every morning and evening to look for front license violators.
You might want to shoot a PM to JCS (Rolf Stumberger) here on the 6. I bought a front plate mount that screws into the tow hook spot from him. Very good quality, fast delivery, am exceedingly pleased with the product.
sorry to hear about getting pulled over. i'm crossing my fingers that i don't get it due to my tint and no plate either. i guess in WA state it's not as bad as Cali. I know a couple of our NW guys have been pulled over for the plate, but it doesn't seem like it happens nearly as much as you cali guys.

Dug up this thread as I hadnt lived in socal for the past 3 years and wondering what the situation is like now - especially with this down economy I'm wondering if the front license plate tickets are now just another revenue enforcement the cities push onto the police.
To my recollection when I spent a few years in the west LA area back in 03-05, I only got a front license ticket a few times - I believe a total of 3 over 2.5 years. I had a 996 C4S with no tint, but no front license either. I just drove down each time to the LA courthhouse and just paid the fine. Forgot the amount but it wasnt cheap but neither was it very expensive as tickets go - decent bit under $100 but no longer remember exactly.
I now spend most my time in the Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale area of LA - any 6speeders from that area with no front license able to relate what the current situation is? And the cost for paying the fine rather than mounting the plate if you know it?
I'm still driving around with just my rear Rusnak dealer label and the front windshield sticker - as I've only had the car a bit over a month I'm still doing the "new" car ploy. So far not been stopped but wondering if that's because the local police don't care about the fronts, or see the sticker and dealer rear label and let it go figuring I just bought the car?
I suppose constantly keeping the car look showroom clean is another benefit here as my car really does look like it was just dealer detailed and I just picked it up.
Thoughts, opinions for local Socal conditions now, esp around my area?

I once came back to the metered parking garage on Santa Monica Blvd. in BH where I was parked "head in". Meter still had time left in it, but I got a ticket for the plate. I couldn't believe they check the front of the car when it was parked like that.
Do you recall what the ticket cost was? And did you end up mounting a plate or just pay the fine?
I remember reading something about how Santa Monica was the city where cops actually ran crosswalk stings - like they actually had some undercover officer place just one foot off the sidewalk if you were driving by not even near a crosswalk to see if you stopped as DMV regs officially says you need to do, and similar antics at crosswalks.
For some reason they are more strict about it in LA, but down the road here in OC I've never gotten hassled for it. I'm curious about the time of day when these citations occur? Sometimes cops will use any excuse to pull you over late at night just to see if they can catch any whiffs of booze, etc.
Here is the front plate holder mentioned above:

Good luck to you.

Getting it signed off was an interesting story.
I bought the tow-hook deal off of the guy here on the6...
Put it on, headed down to CHP and they would not sign off on it... saying it must be centered. I told him BS, went to closest CHP office, maybe 10 exit drive down the fwy.... the second officer did not even get out of from behind his desk, just signed off on my ticket.
pm me your bribes and i'll tell you which chp office
