Camcorder for race car- recommendations needed

I am looking to purchase a new camcorder tp capture my racing in a 997 cup. I've been told to shy away from the hard disk and dvds but try to stick with the Mini Tapes. Does anyone have good recommendation? Thanks

Subscribed. I have been in the market also, and have been considering the Traqmate system. http://traqmate1.ipower.com/ecommerc...products_id=91

I am still open to ideas and would love to hear what works for others here.

Check out Sony DCR-HC32 MiniDV Handycam. I have used the HC36 - not really sure of the difference. It does take the small tapes.

For a cheap option, try the MotorSport Hero. It records to an SD card. The quality is You Tube at best, but it is cheap and easy to use.

HD camcorders CMOS system does not work well in a car. The picture is very shakey at best. There was a thread on rennlist about this with links to video's of various HD camcorders.

Just for the record, the Sony DCR-HC32 MiniDV Handycam uses CCD technology and not CMOS.

Thx fellas. Just ordered the motorsport hero. This looks to be a good product for the race car without having to spend hundreds. Cant wait to play with it tmw...

Is it HD though? Maybe I confused you but I was speaking of HD camcorders. Some guys have had excellent video with the Aiptek HD camcorders you can get from Best Buy for $139.

No it's not HD, I was just trying to clarify what it was.

i use panasonic hdc-sd9. it uses micro sdram. picture quality is pretty good thru hdtv. it's light and reasonably priced. think i paid ~600 for it. wind noise is another matter when you get going. the software (pinnacle studio) that came with sucks though.

Just learned this the hard way. You must use tape over HD or the camcorder just shuts off with the vibration. Buy the cheap Sony(DCR-HC52) for just over $200. Works great. I use it in my drag evo.

I have the sony HD DCR-SR82 and it shuts off every time I try to have it record on track... how do I prevent it from happening? Is it the drop sensor?
