i personally like the handheld HD camcorders with SDHC rams (no harddrives). picture quality is great. stable although the io port mount may have something to do with this and not all camera. the cool thing about it is you can just take the SD ram out of your cam and plug it in your PS3 sd slot and baaam you're watching yourself in HD on the big screen! plus i use the same cam to film my kids growing up.

my gear:
Panasonic HDC-SD9
16gb SDHC (you can get about 2hrs worth in 1080p recording)
IO port mount
PS3 and HDTV for family viewing
or rip it and upload mp4 to vimeo in HD quality
