Drivers Ed / Track Insurance??

Drivers Ed / Track Insurance??

I am attending my novice day at Poconos this Saturday.. I am currently covered by Geico. Does anyone know if driving on the track require specialty auto insurance coverage?

Thanks,

Metro NY PCA Pocano

It's called "Driver Education", a school, not a race. Your insurance should cover it. See you then, Red GT-3 #88.

As long as it's not an officially timed event, your insurance should cover you in the case of an incident. Unfortunately, I have several friends that have proven that theory, all with different carriers. If it's a time trial or any sort of "competetive" event, all bets are off.

That is a very questionable statement, depending where you live. ALL of the major insurance carriers that i spoke to here said NO WAY. Any event taking place on a track period voided it. Im not saying yours didnt, just that State Farm, AAA and All State said no to it here in calif. Its very sketchy from what i heard.

I have to agree with the above, they used to cover some track situations until the claims started coming in. A few years ago State Farm specifically added an exclusion for track coverage. Autocross coverage in a parking lot might still be a grey area where you might get coverage but I wouldn't count on it. This is why we use the MINI Cooper S, not the Porsche, for track and autocross.

I agree it is state and carrier specific. In NJ, we've had successful coverage from Liberty Mutual for sure...I don't recall the other carriers.
