How to remove rear seat backs 991

My friend Trovan asked me to help him remove his rear seats, we were able to remove the seat bottoms by following this excellent guide:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-911-991s.html

However, we could not find a guide on how to remove the seat back cushions. After a lot of prying, trial and error, we succeeded in removing those darn cushions. In retrospect, it was not too difficult but you just have to know the proper methods and sequence. I decided to take some photos to help explain the steps.

1) Start with where the the left and right seat backs meet in the middle. There is one front and one rear plastic covers. Start with the rear one by prying either side first near the bottom outwards and upwards as shown by the red arrows. You can use either a large flat head screwdriver or a trim removal tool (I used a metal door panel removal tool). You can tape up the tools so they don't damage the plastic parts. After you got one side out of the hole, you may want to use something to prevent it from falling back in. Then start working on the opposite side. I had to do this several times because once I got one side out, when I start to work on the other side, the original side falls back in.

2. After you get the rear piece out, remove the front piece by prying on one side outwards and forwards as shown in the photo below. Once that is out, work on the opposite side in the same fashion. Once you have remove both the front and rear center covers, you should be able to slide out the two seat back cushions easily.

To give you an idea of how the front piece is locked into the metal, here is a photo of the backside of the front cover.

Here is a photo of what you have once you have removed all the seat bottom and back cushions. You can also remove bars to which seat backs latch onto with a large size torx screwdriver.

Great Post.

I have a rattle with seat backs up that goes away with seat backs down.
Need to take stuff apart and find it.

Thank you

Just been me in my 2014 991 recently. Decided to remove the back seats to allow a tad bit more storage. Very easy and quick to do once you understand how it goes together.
AWESOME detailed walkthrough.
Thank you.

Hi Socal

Need your help. I am trying to get those darn seat backs off to fit my kid's carseat but just can't get that front plastic piece off. My fingers feel like they will snap trying to pry that front plastic cover off...but it wont come off. Is there a trick to it? Pls help!

Using your bare hands will be hard. Try to use a couple flat head screwdrivers (I think I actually used door panel removers) and apply force simultaneously on both side in order to snap the trim piece off. If you just pry one side at a time, you will not be able to remove it. Good luck!

Thank you! I will give it another shot using some pry tools. Thanks again !
