A80 Toyota Supra is the Automotive Equivalent of a Unicorn

Toyota Supra

With 55,000 original miles and nary a modification in sight, this insanely clean Toyota Supra is definitely something you don’t see every day!

Blame the Fast and Furious franchise, our obsession with Japanese automotive culture, or just plain hype. Or maybe a combination of all three. But finding a clean, unmolested A80 Toyota Supra is just about impossible these days. These mighty Gods of Japanese lore are generally cut up and highly modified. Or just plain beaten into the ground by now. Except for this unicorn beauty, which we spotted over at Bring a Trailer, that is.

If this black-on-black 1998 Toyota Supra makes you feel like you transported back to a different time, you aren’t the only one. It’s been so long since we’ve seen a nice, low-mile, unaltered example that we had to rub our eyes a few times to make sure we weren’t seeing things. With only 55k miles on the odometer and a life spent in sunny, dry California, life has truly been kind to this A80.

The only downside? Well, this is a naturally-aspirated, automatic transmission example. But that little fact could also be one of many reasons why it’s still in such great shape today. Besides, the 3.0-liter DOHC inline-six is plenty powerful all by itself. And you still get that massive bookshelf wing, so who cares?

Look closely enough, and you’ll find a couple of small dents and inevitable rock chips. The trunk lock is broken, and the CarFax shows past damage to the right front pillar. But even in spite of these little niggles, bidding on this black beauty is still north of $28k with two days left (as of this writing). For a N/A automatic, that’s one heck of a big number to swallow. But when you’re dealing in unicorns, that’s the price of admission!
