Galpin Throws It Back to the ‘80s With Wild Porsche 930 Slantnose
Galpin Motors teamed up with Porsche Santa Clarita to create a truly unique, retro throwback of a Porsche 930 Turbo unlike anything else.
Galpin Motors and Porsche Santa Clarita are no strangers to churning out cool custom builds, having done so on countless occasions in the past. However, they’ve never done anything quite like this – an incredibly cool, retro throwback to the 1980s in the form of a rather radical Porsche 930 Slantnose, which was revealed at the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge at the Werks Reunion in Monterey, California and immediately racked up a pair of awards including People’s Choice and Kid’s Choice.
In this case, Galpin and Porsche Santa Clarita started out with a rather rough 1988 Porsche 911 Turbo that had suffered both fire and corrosion damage, making it the perfect canvas for doing something, well, a bit different. Thus, the duo came up with an interesting idea – why not pay homage to the 1980s and its unique sense of style, both in the automotive world and otherwise?
That process truly began, however, when the team located a rare, one-of-four X83 Flachbau body kit from Japan, cementing the car’s status as a unique build. From there, the team coated the flanks of this Porsche 930 Slantnose with Rubystar paint, as well as a black racing stripe that takes inspiration from the automaker’s 75th anniversary patterns. Throw in a set of custom teal HRE wheels with chrome rings, and you’ve got a serious standout from a visual perspective.
As one might imagine, that theme continues inside the cabin, where you’ll find a literal sea of turquoise, along with black and white pasha inserts. The details here are quite impressive, as even the instrument cluster was color-matched to fit the theme. Galpin and Porsche Santa Clarita wanted to make this retro ride a bit more modern in terms of its amenities, and accomplished that by adding newer climate control and audio systems, the latter of which utilizes a Porsche Classic radio and Blaupunkt components.
Under the hood, this 930 Turbo is now rocking a 3.5-liter flat-six with individual throttle bodies, a custom oil cooling system, and various other unnamed upgrades that reportedly result in a monstrous output of 850 horsepower. That power flows to the wheels via a rebuilt gearbox and a limited-slip differential, while the suspension has been fortified with the addition of parts from the 997 GT3 RS and ASP, along with MCS coilovers.
The results of that work most certainly speaks for itself, as this Porsche 930 Slantnose is easily one of the most unique – not to mention one of the coolest – 911 builds we’ve seen in a long time. In a world chock full of cookie cutter rides, this one probably seemed risky at first, but it goes without saying that taking on that risk paid off in a big way.
