1988.5 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV Quattrovalvole

Gorgeous LP5000 Quattrovalvole Countach Appears On Bring A Trailer With Surprisingly High Miles. Could You Be The Next Driver?

The Lamborghini Countach needs no introduction. This is especially true for the LP5000 model. While the LP400 and LP500 Countach models are iconic in their own right, you’d be hard-pressed to find a car enthusiast that grew up in the eighties that didn’t have a poster of one of these spectacular cars on their wall. Unfortunately, as we all grew up, so did the price of these iconic Lamborghini poster cars. While a couple of decades ago, you could have scored an LP5000 Countach for a fairly reasonable price, you’d be hard-pressed to find one south of the $300,000 mark at this point. It’s not at all uncommon for lower-mileage examples to approach the $500,000 mark. This may be your best shot at scoring an “affordable” one.

This 1988.5 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Quattrovalvole is currently listed on Bring A Trailer. However, at the time of writing, it already has a bid of $305,000. So, take the term “affordable” with a grain of salt, of course. Despite its fairly high mileage, this car appears to be in near-perfect condition.  Before we get too far into the specs, let’s address the elephant on the front of the car.

What’s With the Wonky Wing?

For those who aren’t aware, the strange-looking wing on the front of that Countach is indeed an OEM part. It was certainly not an original design feature, however. The front-mounted wing came only on North American Countach models. It exists solely to comply with five-mile-per-hour crash bumper requirements. That’s right! It’s not a wing; it’s a bumper! You may notice that other Countach models have big and bulky bumpers on the edges of the front of the vehicle that serves the same purpose. So, while this is a factory part, you’ll not likely see an LP5000 or any Countach wearing its weird wing when casually cruising down the road. Most owners and even some dealerships removed them upon delivery.

Now, on to the specs!

Rear End Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV Quattrovalvole White

The LP5000 Quattrovalvole, or QV, gets its name from the four valves per cylinder in the 5.2-liter V12 engine’s cylinder heads. When new, this engine was producing 414 horsepower and likely retains the majority of that power to this day. This is especially true given that the factory Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection system was replaced with a Haltech Elite ECU and modern fuel injectors. If you have never dealt with a K-jet injection system, take our word for it, this upgrade is a huge favor to the future owner.

The leather interior is white, matching the exterior paint job and truly cementing its place in history. Though not on every model, the white leather interior is a massive part of the Countach lore. Of course, it comes standard with the rest of the usual Countach affair, including the big beautiful wing (the back one, that is) and a five-speed manual transmission.

A True Driver’s Car

This Countach actually has relatively high mileage at 28,000. So, we are pretty curious to see what it’s going to sell for. We can take solace in one thing, though. Given the “high” mileage on this car, we feel it’s safe to assume the next owner will actually drive it. We much prefer that over being forever tucked away into a private collection like so many other classic supercars have been.
