New 911 GT3 Leaked! Your GT3 Now Has DRS!

Newly leaked images of the 992 GT3 RS show extensive use of trick aero, with channels and ducts galore!

Back in the day, as in 1973, Porsche used the RS moniker for the first time. It was used on the Carrera and with the car essentially being a homologation special, it created a race car for the road. GT3 as a race category didn’t exist at the time, so the full GT3 RS wouldn’t appear till later.

But that same concept has been passed town to each successive generation. Although over time, the RS wasn’t needed in order to go racing. Instead, RS stood for the most extreme performance version of the track-bred 911 from which it is based.

And now, we’ve been able to take a glimpse at the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. It’s beauty is no longer a product of simplicity, but instead, of innovation, and technical fascination. Smooth lines have given way to spats, louvers, vents, cutouts, wings and strakes. There’s even an image that obviously shows some kind of DRS system where a secondary element of a wing can trim out, just like a Formula 1 car.

But from what we can tell from lower resolution leaked photos via Car Expert, the car is still the ultimate road version of the GT3, fully giving honor to the RS name tag. But it doesn’t have to exist for racing purposes. It exists for Porsche enthusiasts.

Those enthusiasts will enjoy the last of an era, too. While Porsche is scrambling to develop synthetic fuels to save internal combustion, the GT3 RS offers one last hurrah to piston power. A screaming redline has been the characteristic of the GT3 RS for a number of generations now, and thankfully with this car, that will still be one of the hallmarks.

Purists may take issue with PDK potentially being the only available transmission. Though as we know if enough of you speak up, a third-pedal option may find its way in. Especially if emissions regulations force a company like Porsche to add electrification to any of the “GT” cars.

So while we wait for the official unveiling, let’s not criticism the GT3 RS from falling away from the original mould. Instead, let’s celebrate the fact that Porsche is giving us one last ability to experience piston power in its most aggressive and pure form. We can’t wait to hear it.
