1972 911 Targa

My father has a 1972 911 Targa and I'd like to surprise him with some nice upgrades and addons for it.
He needs new tires for example - does anyone know what sizes will fit?
Are there any good performance modifications available?

I am not local to him so I can't easily figure this out by bringing the car to a shop.

Thanks for the help guys!

Wheel type would help.

I don't know too much about early cars but I think a Dansk exhaust would be pretty nice.

If it is stock, it has 6X15 Fuchs, DON'T CHANGE THEM!!!!
195 or 205/60/15s are a good tire size choice. Without knowing more about the car, it is hard to recomend anything. Is it a T,E or S, is it all stock or has he changed it??

I'd recommend the 195/60/15 tires. If it has the original Fuchs wheels, those should very handled very carefully.

The 1972 had a nice 2.4L engine. I would not try to modify it, or you could subtract from its value. I would recommend sending it to a good Porsche shop and have them do a complete tune-up on the engine.

If it is a 911S, they are worth twice as much as a 911T or 911E.

It does have the stock wheels, which should be the Fuchs I suppose.
Will the 206/60/15's fit on them without an issue? Would be nice to get him a bit wider of a tire.

I've run 205/55's on my 6" front wheels for 23 years and they fit without any problems. The 55's are a little bit lower profile than the 60's. My front wheels are 16's, but the stock 87 911 came with 6 inch wide front wheels with 205/55/15's. I assume that the 72 has 15 x 6 wheels on all four corners?? Send an email to Tirerack (or other tire supplier) and talk to them. They can help you and keep you from making a mistake.

The Yoko's are good tires...I've been using them for several years and they wear well and have good traction....Pipes.
