Anybody heard of Road-Scholars?

Has any of you 944 guys heard of Road-Scholars they are in North Carolina. I talked to them yesterday they have two really low mileage 86 944 turbos. One has 20K miles the other has 19K miles. Let me know if anyone has heard of them before. Also one is Black the other is Guards Red. They want $21,500 for the Black one and $25,000 for the Red one. I would like some input.

Thanks,

Jason

April 2003 Excellence has the '86 951 listed at a high of $9,888 the '89 is listed at $15,588. I think that is a very high asking price for that car even if you added excellent condition and low mileage. What mods if any are done to the car?

For that much have you thought of a 928GT?

Heck yeah I would go with a 928GT but I can't find any at that price. Anyone who has a 928 with decent miles wants in the 50's and I guess that may be for a GTS. Hey let me know if you come across any. I knew that it was a high asking price but didn't really know the market on a car with that low a mileage. Thanks man for the tip and if you come across any 928's with low miles that are not asking crazy prices let me know. Also if you know of any 944 turbos let me know.

Thanks,

Jason

Where in NC are they, I'm in Charlotte and would be willing to take a look for you. I have an 86 turbo so I know what to look for.

Playboy yes the number you posted are closer than the price he is looking at. Hell for that much I would sell him mine. Your number for an 86 seams a little low, I have an 86 that I bought 6 years ago with 42k on the clock and I paid 13k. The 86 is under valued if the shopper is not a Porsche person, but for someone that wants a good base car to mod it is the best year. The 86 is atleast 200 hundred lbs lighter than the 87s and up due to the lack of ABS and airbags. The 86 is also the only year with forged rods, which is good when you start modding also the 86 is the only year that came with Fuchs wheels. The uprated konis that you can get on the 87 and up cars is a wear item that for 500 bucks you can put brand new ones on the 86. The 88 turbo s and the 89 had a k26/8 instead of the k26/6 but if you are going to mod the car will be switched out so it is not worth the extra money. For 300 bucks you can make the 86 have more hp than the turbo s. I am currently at 240rwhp while the turbo s has 247 at the flywheel.

hey guys,
sorry for my ignorance but which model car are you talking about the 928 or the 944? What is the HP on the 944 s, 944 turbo and 968. Are they easy to mod for track use. Thinking about building a track car. Any info would be appreciated.

We started on the 944 Turbo and I suggested he check out a 928GT for the price of the 944 he was looking at.

I don't know the hp numbers on the 944/968. I have heard that the 86 944 Turbo was almost as fast as the 86 930.

I know a few people in the Porsche club who have all-out 944 race cars and one person who races a 968. I would have to do some digging for the other info you requested.

Steve,
thanks for the response and your help. Wow, the 944 turbo can keep up with a 930. . . very impressive.

A 944 spec racer has about 135-140rwhp a 968 has 240fwhp a 944 turbo has 217fwhp and a 944 turbo S has 247fwhp. The base 944 and 968 are very expensive to mod and when you do you do not get much bang for the buck. The 944 turbo is very easy to mod, I picked up 50rwhp with a 300 dollar chip set.

This is a great board for the 996TTs but is you want information on a 944 go to Rennlist (no offence against 6speed). Search the 944 turbo forum and there is a post that has an article where Derrick Bell drove back to back a 930 and 944T on the track and the 944 had better lap times.
These are good cars they will never be a 996TT but for the money you can make a nice track car or a fun car to play on the street. There are even a few people that are running 400-500rwhp and drive them daily.
