What's going on guys, Im new to the Porsche world and have been looking to buy a 964 C2 or C4. It is going to be my daily driver, but i have heard that the C4's have a very complex system, very complicated and thus more expensive(to fix). Although I heard they handle flawlessly and even in rain, sleet, or snow. What cha guys think

I would definitely say C4 if you are daily driving it in NY. I have a C4 and love it. I did just replace my clutch and have to drop the engine and tranny to do so, which I believe is not necessary if you have a C2. It turned out just fine though because I replaced all the rubber hoses and some seals while I was in there. In some cases the C4 will require a little more labor to work around the AWD system.

 

What are you looking to do with the car?

 

Well put on the Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers and an Exhaust system for starters. then eventually down the road go turbo!!! I would be using it to go back and fourth to school , drivin around town, and goin upstate(bout a 3 hr drive) about twice a month.

 

Ah you sound like me several years back! I had a c2 that I put exhaust on, chip, air cleaner, nitrous etc. I wanted a turbo, but at the end of the day I had a slow c2 lol. If you can just go straight to the turbo. I was never happy with mine for the simple reason I wanted a turbo lol.

 

are the chip's even worth getting? i wish i could go straight to a turbo but thats out of my price range :/ soo a carrera it is. ive been saving my money so i could finally afford one and the time has come lol

 

I added all the exhaust, chip, and air cleaner at the same time. It did make a difference. I didnt put it on the dyno to see what it gained though. If you want a turbo I would just drive the car, and not do any mods. Just save your money for later on when you upgrade.

 

Make sure before you buy one have it checked out. I would recommend Jimmy at The Shop. He is in Conneticut.

 

Don't get the C4 unless you need/want AWD. The C2 is lighter, a bit faster, and cheaper to maintain. The AWD is complex but I have not heard of any AWD systems crapping out on a C4. They are supposedly built like tanks. You can't go wrong with either one. They are fun to drive. Good luck with your choice. You should try to drive both and decide.

 

today i test drove a 91 C4 that im thinking bout buying. its got 57k miles and has been garage keep for the past 7yrs. the car handles flawlessly even in rain. im debating about buying it but i wanna test drive a C2 first. is there a big difference between handling? the car is gonna go throw far trips and snow and rain so should i get the C4? or is a C2 just a better buy?

 

Traction in the wet and slippery conditions will be superior in a C4, no doubt. If you anticipate driving in these conditions frequently, it is a nice to have the peace of mind, especially if you have a good set of winter tires mounted. The handling is more neutral with a C4 and tougher to get the tail to step out, although it can be done. If you like the way the C4 handles, you should get it. I love driving mine and I mostly use it for street driving. If you plan on taking it to the track frequently I think the C2 would be more fun.

 

C2!!! C4 is heavyer slower and it handles worse almos more downstere, its not just my opinion.

If ure like to drive C2 is youre car. If u dont C4.

C4 has some understeer but not unmanageable. There is a lot that can be modified on the 964 C4 to make it even more wonderful... I had a ton of work done on my 964 back in the day... 993 Varioram, 993 4wd, 993 6 speed all can be stuffed into the car. Ask me how I know ;P
