I was looking over Stephens shoulder while he was posting an article and thought I'd join in. I spent a lot of time over at 912bbs.org when I still had my 912. Great group. Very helpful. You guys read very aware and informative - I'm looking forward to hanging out, learning and hopefully contributing.
Right now I am without my C4 because Imagine Auto is in the process of doing a total engine rebuild. I'll have all the detailed images on my site when complete this month. When I get the final CD of images I'll post some here as well.
I won't bore anyone with a detailed history of my Porsche ownership, but if you are bored and want to kill time just head over to one of my sites (I take more shots of my cars then my kids).
Happy New Year everyone.

Well, when I bought her last April she leaked (of course she did). The PO didn't driver her much at all, so he used a drip pan. I myself used a pan for my 912, so I thought nothing of it...until I started parking in the same spot at work. When my spot was taken later that night I waled by after the car had moved and saw an ***-load of oil. I was due for a change, so I took her over to Imagine. Of the couple things I needed done (break light sensor needed to be changed, stereo installed, oil change, etc.) I asked him to give me a realistic check on what we could do.
After Stephen told me he only got 1 QT out of her (not good) he had a couple suggestions: driver her as is, keep checking the oil levels REGULARLY and pray for the best, swap out with a Turbo engine (which was my suggestion - but cost would have been way to high), or drop the curent, split her open, and fix it all.
I was there prior to the holidays as they were taking the engine out. Talked to Stephen a week later and parts that needed to be sent out for powder-coating and machining had been. He's waiting on them to come back so he can put it all back together (holiday has been holding things up).
By verbal estimate, with the loss of compression, we're guessing I wasn't even getting close to the stock 250hp. Also, since we were at it, he's putting a whole new exhaust system on as well.
Basically, I'm getting a brand "spankin" new 964. Can't wait. Dying for the car and the set of images they said would be shot to document it all.
So, once it's all done I'll get a full set of technical specs, DYNO, images, and a brain dump from the Imagine guys and post when I can.
I look forward to rain and snow - C4 drives better in the elements then my Benz.

I have gone thru the same issues, Top end re-build due to oil leaks, New flywheel due to the center exploding, new clutch (it was needed), q couple of sensors, new distributor, new abs control pump (twice), the normal rotors and pads replacements, This has been a troubling little car for me to keep in shape.
Of course in the same moment I am lamenting about the $$ invested, I am reveling in the drive.
I previously drove a Wrangler, so while I may not get the traction and true off road ability, this little car has taken me thru every snow fall in the last 4 years in Cincinnati, including one Wensday morning with 17 inches recorded.
I find the look on 4x4 driver's faces comical when they see me on the hwy in the snow, and I have no problems period.
Safe travels,
Wilson

Also new to 6spd
Pretty wild - I previously had a 1966 912 and now own a 1990 911 C4.
It has all the oil leak issues, but figured I could live with it for now.
How much are these rebuilds running?

Twilight,
My topend rebuild consisted of new exhaust valves and guides, machining the heads, clutch and new flywheel (LUK version, not the lightweight) and a couple of other minor bits I cannot remember without pulling out the invoice.
I ended up with a repair bill just this side of 10k. ( I have checked around and for the work done I think I was in the upper reaches of the avg cost for these types of repairs.)
This **** will run now though.

That's about right on mine as well (I have other costs included on things like a break sensor and car stereo). I'll list out all the details when I get her back.
It's all ice here in KC and I'd much rather be in my C4 then the FWD car I'm using...

Welcome to 6speed. Beautiful car.
I don't know if you did your research on Imagine Auto, but . . .
Just kiddin'. Stephen, Karl, et al are as good as they come. Sounds like the car will be a blast when it's back - hopefully soon.
